Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday for a village and parish-wide rubbish clean-up ! Dozens of bags collected around the village and surrounds.

Thanks to those who self-organized in town-lands and approach roads. We know some are doing this on other days - if anyone still needs bags or gloves, etc please get in to touch.

Great also to welcome new faces - looking forward to working with some of you on village projects in months ahead. We welcome anyone with ideas and prepared to give a few hours.

Thanks again to Noel Thomas for his help, organisation and pickups again, to An Taisce The National Trust for Ireland National Spring Clean for various materials and to the lovely Moycullen business Replenish for denoting great coffees to participants !

Great to see our Tidy Town volunteers getting out already in March !

Encouraging all parts and residents of our village and surrounding approach roads/townlands to volunteer some time - it makes a big difference to the community. We are here to help with projects - small and big.

Watch out for the Big Spring Clean day later this month - on Saturday March 28th per below.

Connemara Greenway Alliance Update

The Connemara Greenway Alliance (CGA) was formed in 2009 by a group of local business owners, community members and activists who support the completion of the Connemara Greenway.

Nearly two decades on, we are still waiting for the project to be delivered.

Every year we take part in the Moycullen St Patrick’s Day parade, and it’s always the same question from people along the route: “When will the Greenway be finished?”

Based on the current planning process, a realistic ballpark timeline could look something like this:

- Planning application to An Coimisiún Pleanála: late 2026
- Planning decision: late 2027
- If required, a judicial review could extend this to early 2028
- Tendering process during 2028
- Construction starting late 2028 / early 2029
- Completion possible around 2030

We have engaged with AECOM, who are managing the Galway to Oughterard project, and the Galway County Council to try to get this project completed faster but have been told that they need to follow all the relevant policies in relation to the planning process and that this is why it is taking so long. The Galway to Oughterard project team have a website https://galwaytooughterardgreenway.ie/ and they encourage the public to give feedback so please feel free to contact them and let them know your opinions. The CGA will keep doing this too.
There are still several important steps ahead, but progress continues. The Greenway has the potential to bring safe walking and cycling routes, local recreation opportunities, and sustainable tourism to Connemara.

We will continue to share updates and support the delivery of the Connemara Greenway for the region.

A Tidy Town update ! Follow us Maigh Cuilinn Tidy Towns
👏 Thanks to our small volunteer team for continued work around the village. Today’s work below ! Volunteers for projects very welcome. 🪏👨‍🌾
🚛 We are engaged with the council on a few topics, and are hopeful (over the next few months) of a cleanup of the problematic kerbing/weeds on the Galway road, and the cutting back of overgrown brush/grass at village entrances and roundabouts. We are also engaged with the community scheme to identify priority areas for maintenance 🪏
🚶‍♂️🚲 A CoCo Active Travel community survey is expected soon. Suggestions on priorities welcome.
