UPDATE ON PLAYGROUND REFURBISHMENT

In December 2025 Dunmore East Development Group was delighted to annouce that the group had been awarded funding for the complete refurbishment of the playground in the village park. This refurbishment will provide the playground with brand new equipment, a second entrance, new fencing and a completely new ground surface to bring it up to modern safety standards.

DEDG recognises that the present state of the playground is totally unacceptable. Therefore Waterford City & County Council have committed to repairing the present surface and removing broken equipment as an interim measure. These interim works will take place in May, which will necessitate the closure of the playground for a few days.
DEDG will inform the public of the exact date of this closure once it has been confirmed to us by WC&CC.

As the actual full refurbishment will require the playground to be closed for a longer period of a number of weeks, it was agreed with Waterford City & County Council that this closure would take place in the Autumn, after the busy Summer season. Again, DEDG will inform the public when the exact date has been confirmed.

DEDG looks forward to seeing this project come to fruition over the coming weeks and months.

DEDG WELCOMES FUNDING OF RESTORATION OF 17TH CENTURY TOWER HOUSE

Dunmore East Development Group is delighted to see that funding of €100,000 has been secured for the restoration of the 17th Century Tower House overlooking Ladies Cove, under the Community Monuments Fund.

The application for this funding was submitted by the private owners of the Tower House, and DEDG is delighted to see that this has resulted in a positive outcome. The Tower House is a key heritage feature of the village. Although its origins are not fully certain, some sources suggest that it was built by Lord Power of the Curraghmore Estate circa 1640, while others suggest a different origin story.

The funding will allow for stabilisation works to be completed on the Tower House, which will ensure its long-term survival into the future, and the site has already been secured in anticipation of this.

DEDG looks forward to seeing these works progress over the coming weeks and months, and the Group will continue to keep the restoration and maintenance of the village's built heritage high on its agenda.

🎉 DUNMORE EAST DEVELOPMENT GROUP SECURE €300,000 FOR REFURBISHMENT OF PLAYGROUND AND COUNSELLOR'S STRAND CAR PARK 🎉

Dunmore East Development Group (DEDG) is delighted to announce that we have secured €300,000 for two key projects in the village under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme.

The first project is the complete refurbishment of the children's playground in the park. While our playground is a fantastic amenity for the children of Dunmore East, its condition in recent times has been a concern for many. Today's announcement means that this shortfall in our village infrastructure will be rectified, and that the children of Dunmore East and future generations can enjoy a modern, inclusive, and above all fun, playground for many years to come.

The second project allows for the enhancement of the car park at Counsellor's Strand. This area offers wonderful vistas of the village and surrounding coastline and is frequented by both locals and visitors alike. Suitable infrastructure will be sympathetically developed here to accommodate those who use the area for both recreational and fitness activities, while at the same time protecting the natural beauty of the area.

Dunmore East Development Group would like to thank Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, and local Minister of State, Mary Butler TD, for their assistance with our application. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Waterford City and County Council for their strong support and assistance to our Group in getting to this stage.

Dunmore East Development Group was established in June 2024 under Town Centre First. This followed a public meeting in the Haven Hotel in May 2023 at which it was agreed that representatives from the various community and commercial organisations in the village would be invited to nominate representatives to form the Group. Since then the Group has been working assiduously to get to today's announcement.

We are thrilled with today's announcement and the progress of these two important projects, and we look forward to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to bring to fruition other ambitious and transformative projects for the village and for everyone who calls Dunmore East home.
