Our campaign is calling for fair, state-supported access to the shingles vaccine for adults aged 65+, so that older people are not prevented from accessing this important vaccine because of cost.

Active Retirement Ireland National President Mai Quaid was delighted to attend the launch of ‘Standing Together On and Off the Pitch’ at Croke Park, a new dementia awareness collaboration between the GAA, the HSE’s Dementia: Understand Together campaign and the family of the late former GAA President Seán McCague.

The initiative aims to support GAA clubs across Ireland to become more dementia-inclusive, helping people living with dementia to remain connected to the clubs, communities and activities that have been part of their lives for many years.

At Active Retirement Ireland, we see every day through our Active Retirement Associations the difference that community connection, friendship and participation can make in people’s lives. Creating communities where people can remain connected and involved is vital at every stage of life, and initiatives like this can make a real difference by building greater understanding of dementia and ensuring that people living with dementia and their families feel welcomed, supported and included.

Mai was pleased to join Minister for Older People Kieran O’Donnell TD and representatives from across the GAA, the Dementia: Understand Together campaign and partner organisations for the launch.

A campaign awareness video will be shown on Croke Park’s big screens during the All-Ireland football semi-final this Sunday and will also be shared widely across the GAA community, helping to bring this important message to clubs, members and supporters across Ireland.

We would like to invite you to Taste of DCU, our annual open day for older adults, which takes place on Monday, 31 August 2026 at DCU. The event offers a wonderful opportunity to experience everything our Age-Friendly University Programme has to offer.

Whether you are interested in learning something new, meeting like-minded people, or becoming more involved in university life, Taste of DCU is the perfect place to start. During the day, you can:

Meet our team and current participants.
Learn about our wide range of educational opportunities, including university modules, short courses, languages, arts and humanities, history, psychology, wellbeing, technology, and creative programmes.
Discover our social, cultural, and intergenerational activities.
Find out how you can join our vibrant learning community of more than 2,000 older adults who engage with DCU each week.
Speak with staff and volunteers about the many ways to get involved in university life.
We are also delighted to share that DCU is the first university in Ireland to receive Erasmus+ Adult Education Accreditation. This exciting recognition enables us to offer international learning opportunities for our participants through educational visits, exchanges, and partnerships with universities and organisations across Europe. Recent and upcoming mobilities include visits to Spain, Malta, Poland, and other European destinations, giving participants the opportunity to learn alongside their peers, experience different cultures, and build lasting international friendships.

At DCU, we believe learning has no age limit. Our Age-Friendly University Programme is built on the principle that universities should be places where people of all ages can continue to learn, grow, contribute, and connect throughout their lives.
