They arrive frightened. Injured. Abandoned.

Some have only known neglect, cruelty or suffering. Others have been left with no one to care for them.

This is where their healing begins.

At the NSPCA, shelter medicine is about more than treating wounds and illness. It’s about treating pain, easing fear, providing nourishment and helping each animal feel safe again.

Every day, our veterinary and animal care teams are there, giving medication, preparing meals, cleaning, comforting, monitoring and patiently helping animals recover.

Donate today and help an animal heal 🔗 https://nspca.ie/?form=Donate 🙏🏼

Together, we can help turn fear into trust, suffering into healing, and give these animals the second chance they deserve.

Your donation can be part of that journey.

Thank you 💚

Fig Roll ❤️

At 3 years old, this very handsome boy is the most playful little kitty cat you will meet.

He has a beautiful sun-kissed black coat that shines beautifully in the light. He’s certainly turning heads here at the centre. 🐱

Fig Roll is a little shy at times so he would love a quiet home with older children or adults, where he can build his confidence and come out of his shell in his own time.

With patience and love, this handsome boy will be a devoted companion.

Could you give Fig Roll the peaceful home he’s looking for?❤️

Apply to adopt him at 🔗NSPCA.ie or visit him at 📍NSPCA Longford. Open 7 days a week from 12-4pm. No appointment needed. 🐾

Meet Jim Bro 🐹

This adorable little Syrian hamster has had a really tough life.

He came into the shelter through our Inspectors after being found living in a very small shoe-box sized box, with nothing inside and nowhere for him to hide. 😔

He was also extremely greasy from never having had access to a sand bath. We don’t know how old he is, and we’re not 100% certain of his s*x. We didn’t want to stress him by examining him too extensively, so for now, we’re simply letting him settle in and enjoy the good life he deserves.

And he certainly seems to be loving it! ❤️

He’s quite friendly with us and has been very good when being examined. He’s really enjoying early morning runs on his big wheel (which is where he got his name!) before hiding away for a cosy sleep for the day.

We are looking for an experienced hamster owner who will give Jim Bro the 5 star treatment life he deserves.

Could that be you? 🔗Apply to adopt at NSPCA.ie or come visit him at 📍NSPCA Dublin. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 12-4pm. No appointment needed. 🐾

Sweet Reilly ❤️

At about 10 months old, this wire-haired Whippet cross is as sweet as he is affectionate.

Reilly enjoys stretching his legs and playing with his doggy pals before settling down for a snooze right beside his human ❤️

Reilly is still learning about the world around him. He can be a little nervous walking on a lead simply because it’s new to him, but with patience, training, and gentle encouragement, his confidence will continue to grow 🐶

Reilly really enjoys the company of other dogs so he would be suited to a home with another confident dog who can help show him the ropes and continue bringing him out of his shell.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion, Reilly could be the perfect addition to your family.

Interested in adopting? Come visit him at 📍NSPCA Wicklow. Open 7 days a week from 12-4pm. No appointment needed 🐾 You can also register your interest to adopt 🔗 Link in bio.

Mikey had the best day out 🐶

At 6 years old, Mikey is a wonderful Golden Retriever Akita cross with a playful spirit, a loving heart, and so much affection to give.

Sadly, Mikey’s world was turned upside down when his owner was no longer able to care for him.

Despite everything, Mikey has never lost his gentle nature. He still greets the people he knows with enthusiasm, he enjoys playtime, and he loves spending time with people he trusts. Now, all he wants is a second chance - a family to call his own and a place where he can finally feel settled and loved once again.

This super friendly boy adores pets, belly rubs, and lots of TLC. He has a fun, goofy side, especially when he’s out in the off-lead areas, running around and playing with staff and volunteers. After a good play session, he’s more than happy to curl up for cuddles.

Mikey gets on well with other dogs, however, while he enjoys socialising on walks, he would be best suited as the only dog in the home where he can have his own space.

He arriving in overweight but has already lost a few kilos and is making great progress. His new family will need to continue supporting his healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet.

Mikey has many of the classic traits of an Akita so we would like to find him someone who has experience with the breed and understands their nature. He would be best suited to an adult-only home where he can settle in at his own pace as changes can be a little stressful for him.

Could you be the one to give him his forever home?❤️

Come visit him at 📍NSPCA Dublin. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 12-4pm. No appointment needed. 🐾

Six ferrets, one mission: maximum mischief! 💨

Meet our playful little whirlwind crew - full of curiosity and cheeky enough to keep you smiling all day long.

At just a few months old, Moko, Stirfry, Opalite, Crackers and Croissant are the most giddy, excitable and curious little slinkies you’ll ever meet.

These adorable little ferrets are looking for foster-to-adopt homes.

At just a year old, their wonderful mom Chipsi just wants to play, sleep, eat and repeat. She is ready for a loving family to adopt her.

These ferrets can go in pairs - they are a very social bunch.❤️

Ferrets are highly social, active animals and benefit hugely from another ferret friend and/or someone who is home a lot of the time to interact with them. They need to live inside with a multi-storey enclosure where they can climb, sleep and go to the toilet. We are happy to recommend enclosures or any advice on husbandry by email: [email protected]

Could any of these cheeky chaps be your perfect match? Apply to foster or adopt on our website 🔗NSPCA.ie or come visit them at📍NSPCA Dublin. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 12-4pm. No appointment needed. 🐾

Heartbroken by condition and suffering of pony.

Five weeks ago, NSPCA inspectors responded to a call about a pony in Monaghan. When they arrived, it was immediately clear that this poor animal had suffered from prolonged neglect.

Her hooves were among the worst we have ever seen, severely overgrown and curling on all four feet. She was in immense pain, and standing was clearly painful and a huge struggle for her. Zola was transported to NSPCA Dublin, where she received immediate pain relief to help her through the night. It took all her strenght and help from staff to help her get to her stable where soft bedding and food were waiting for her. It was heartbreaking to watch.

Correcting Zola’s hooves was an extremely delicate procedure, and the farrier could only remove a little at a time to avoid causing her further pain or injury and she was sedated to help her through the process.

Sadly, there were many other underlying issues that Zola had been coping with for a long time. Her eyes were sore, she had significant swellings around her jaw, and swellings in the muscles of both hindquarters. Further veterinary investigations and full blood work were carried out.

Following the results and careful veterinary assessment, the incredibly difficult decision was made to end Zola’s ongoing suffering.

We did everything we could for this gentle pony. It is devastating that, after everything she had endured, we could not give her the future she deserved.

But we can take some small comfort in knowing that Zola is finally free from the pain, suffering and horrendous living conditions she had endured for years.

This is an on going case with NSPCA inspectors.

Can You Help Me?

Hi, I’m Phoebe. I arrived at the shelter yesterday after I was rescued by the NSPCA.

I have sore skin and need special baths and medication to make me feel better.

I’m a sweet Lurcher puppy and I’m hoping someone out there will help me and offer me a loving foster home 🐶

Because I have sore skin, I can’t go to a home with any other pets, so if you can help, please email [email protected]
