Great to see an article by Azra Dervish in today’s Limerick Leader about our upcoming Drama League of Ireland 60th Summer School 1-8 Aug in UL.

The countdown to Saturday is on in earnest. Summer School Director Ollie Kenny and the Summer School Committee of Christine O’Brien, Willie O’Brien, Elaine McLoughlin and DLI Administrator Valerie McGuile can’t wait to welcome all the participants!

The DLI Office in Dundrum is closed on Thursday 30th July before Summer School. Emails to [email protected] will be answered as usual from UL 1st -8th August.
There will be no library service available during Summer School Week.

The office reopens on Monday 10th August until Thursday 13th with library service again on offer. It will then close for holidays until WED 26th AUGUST.

Applications are now open for the Marie Mullen Bursary 2026.

The Marie Mullen Bursary is an annual award for women working on the island of Ireland as theatre artists in the fields of design, directing and dramaturgy.

Named in honour of actor and Druid co-founder, Marie Mullen, the bursary is intended to address a historic imbalance and to support the professional development of women in Irish theatre.

This bursary provides the chosen theatre artist with the time, physical resources and mentoring necessary to support their work.

Bursary winners often continue to work with Druid following the completion of their bursary years. Our current production ‘The Shaughraun’ has two bursary winners on the creative team - Sarah Baxter, Associate Director (Bursary Recipient 2020-2021) and Clíodhna Hallissey, Costume Design (Bursary Recipient 2019-2020)

The deadline for applications is 5pm, Thursday 27 August 2026.

All roads lead to UL this weekend as our much-awaited 60th DLI Summer School gets underway - we wish all our students and tutors a wonderful week in Limerick. Our Summer School Director Ollie Kenny & DLI Chairperson Mary Newman have special messages for all participants!

This is the last newsletter until late August/early September. So, please note:
