THE WAKE OF YER MAN

Set in rural Westmeath in 1995, The Wake of Yer Man is a darkly comic
Irish play about family, memory, identity and the things one
generation leaves the next to untangle.

Written by Yvonne Heavey, the play grew from an award-winning short
story and has already played to approximately 1,400 people across five
performances. Its original Jersey run sold out in advance, an
additional matinee was added, and the production later travelled to
Mullingar.

The play now returns in a substantially developed new version in April 2027:

Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone — 9 April 2027
Jersey Arts Centre — 23–24 April 2027

At its heart, it is a story about the histories families tell, the
truths they leave out, and the humour, warmth and silence that can
exist side by side in Irish family life.

Over the course of this workshop, you will explore some of the ways a director might prepare before their first day of rehearsals and how a director collaborates with actors once rehearsals have begun. Taking a practical approach, the workshop will cover exploring a script, composition, stagecraft and creating a working room where everyone can be at their best.

ARTS CAPITAL INVESTMENT FUND

DLI CHAIR Mary Newman and Summer School Director Ollie Kenny were delighted to be in attendance today when Minister Patrick O'Donovan today launched a new capital funding scheme, the Arts Capital Investment Fund . This scheme will open for applications tomorrow morning. We in DLI urge all our groups to take full advantage of this new initiative. There will be an eleven week window during which you can apply for the funding which ranges over building work, equipment, refurbishing, energy upgrades and technical upgrades. This is a wonderful chance for all our groups to improve their facilities and make halls and theatres safer, more comfortable and more welcoming.

Mary and Ollie were delighted to meet and speak with Minister O Donovan and Minister Malcolm Byrne.

It’s very encouraging to note that our pleas for funding are getting a hearing so please, be aware of the 11 week window and get applying!
