Team Power of 1 was honoured to present the funds raised from our World’s Toughest Row in memory of the incredible Saoirse O’Driscoll.
Together, we raised an extraordinary €575,841 for two charities that were deeply woven into Saoirse’s journey: Heart Children Ireland and the Children’s Heart Centre through the Children’s Health Foundation.
Over 3,743 individual donors and 40 corporate sponsors supported our iDonate campaign — a powerful display of generosity, compassion, and unity.
We were warmly welcomed to the Mansion House by The Lord Mayor, Emma Blain, where we had the privilege of presenting these funds surrounded by a community who loved and supported Saoirse:
Saoirse’s cherished friends, and her devoted family from Dublin and Tipperary.
Her loving parents, Aoife and John, and her little brother Riain, who were central to the day. John delivered a moving and powerful speech that captured Saoirse’s incredible strength, bravery and the deep impact she made in her short life.
Our amazing rowers Enda, Daragh, and Roger, and their families. Team member Conor McCarthy was unable to attend due to work commitments but sent his heartfelt well wishes.
Representing Heart Children Ireland were CEO Sheila Campbell and Fundraising Executive Niamh Kearney, who is also Saoirse’s aunt.
Representing the Children’s Heart Centre were Fionnuala O’Leary (CEO), Rosemary Simmons (Director of Development), Catherine Sheehan (Community Engagement), Liz Cronin, Rachel Daly and Niamh White.
A wonderful gathering of close friends and corporate sponsors.
And two exceptional individuals who cared for Saoirse — her cardiologist, Professor Orla Franklin, and her surgeon, Professor Lars Nolke.
The funds raised will go directly towards improving the lives of children born with congenital heart disease through impactful projects such as:
A Family Support Worker at the Children’s Heart Centre at CHI Crumlin, providing emotional and practical support to families during hospital stays.
Investment in cutting-edge VR technology, allowing surgeons to create 3D replicas of a child’s heart — a breakthrough tool that, as explained by Prof. Franklin, will enhance surgical planning and improve outcomes
Every stroke we rowed was for Saoirse. Her legacy now lives on — bringing comfort and hope to countless children and their families.
Thank you to everyone who supported us. This is — and always will be — the true Power of 1.
