Galway native Ronan Grimes’ route into Para cycling shows how a bike can open unexpected doors. After first getting involved in cycling through the Irish Government’s Cycle to Work scheme, Grimes went on to become one of the world’s leading Para cyclists, representing Ireland on the sport’s biggest international stages.

Congratulations to Kerrie Leonard, who has become the first Irish Paralympian to complete the IPC’s Para Athlete Professionals Programme.

Kerrie was one of just 19 athletes selected for the first cohort of the programme, from more than 1,000 Paralympians who applied worldwide.

She was also selected to give the closing valedictorian speech, marking a brilliant achievement and a proud Irish first.

The Mixed Class Para 100m Race Series returns for 2026, building on its growing reputation as one of the most exciting initiatives in Irish Para athletics.

Now entering its third year, the series continues to bring together Ireland’s leading male Para sprinters alongside emerging talent, creating a competitive and consistent platform across the domestic season.

2026 Race Series Dates:

Saturday 2 May – Festival of Athletics, Clonmel

Wednesday 10 June – UCD Athletics Meet, UCD Track

Wednesday 8 July – Cork City Sports, MTU Athletics Stadium

Friday 10 July – Morton Games (Series Final), Santry Stadium, Dublin

Rory Motherway’s story, featured by RTΓ‰, highlights the reality of surviving a road crash and how quickly lives can change.

Following a life changing crash, he is now part of Ireland’s wheelchair basketball community, and last summer represented Team Ireland at the European Para Youth Games 2025 in Istanbul.

From injury to representing Team Ireland, his journey shows how sport can create new pathways, purpose and connection.
