🕐 It takes less than one minute, and the information gathered is shared with government ministers, national media and others to highlight the ongoing challenges that insurance costs pose to community and voluntary groups across the country.

💡 New Solutions Lab: Info & Intro
📌 Portershed, Galway
🗓️ Tuesday 9th June, 7–9pm

Interested in ? Want to make change in your community and unsure how to take the next step?

The New Solutions Social Innovation Lab will be holding it's initial introductory event at the Portershed, Galway, from 7–9pm on Tuesday 9th June.

The New Solutions Social Innovation Lab is a new programme aimed at supporting people to develop social innovation ideas that address social problems and improve people's lives. The Lab is being rolled out as part of the New Solutions Social Innovation Hub, a broader initiative working to build a more supportive ecosystem for social innovation in Ireland.

If you have an early-stage social innovation idea, or simply an interest in a social problem you'd like to do something about, the Lab can help you shape your thinking into something real and practical. Through a series of workshops and supports, you will be guided step-by-step from exploring a problem, to developing an idea, to testing it in practice.

Participation is completely free.

At the introductory event on 9th June, you will:
🔹 Get a detailed overview of what the New Solutions Lab is
🔹 Learn about the supports available to help develop your idea
🔹 Meet others who are thinking about creating positive change

If you are curious, motivated, or simply want to explore how you might make a difference in your community, this is a great place to start.

Register for free on Eventbrite: https://lnkd.in/eju-gXMe.

Introductory events for the New Solutions Social Innovation Lab will also be taking place over the coming weeks in Sligo, Dublin, and Cork, as well as online.

A powerful message from Séamus Boland, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the EU body for civil society, at The Wheel’s annual Summit today.

"Organised civil society is core democratic infrastructure. Without it, democracy does not simply struggle - it stops working properly.

"In Ireland, civil society is not abstract. It is local. It is visible. It is deeply rooted in communities.

"Too often, civil society is invited into the process too late. Too often, participation is formal, limited, and disconnected from real influence. This must change.

"Civil society must be involved early. Continuously. Structurally. Because people support and care about what they help create.

"The Irish EU Council Presidency is also an opportunity to bring something distinctly Irish to the European level: a belief that communities matter. That participation matters. And that people must be at the centre of decision-making."

📣 "Without meaningful reform to how the sector is funded and supported, we risk undermining the very organisations that communities across Ireland rely on every day," said The Wheel's Director of Policy and Advocacy Dónall Geoghegan.

One in four charities are uncertain about whether they can sustain existing services this year.

Summit 2026 is underway! We've been building up to this day for months and our incredible team at The Wheel have worked so hard to get us here.

A beautiful new venue for the Summit (the amazing The Helix at DCU), fantastic speakers (excited to see very special guests Séamus Boland, Lorraine Egan, Jerry Buttimer TD, and Eamon Ryan), seven truly compelling Parallel Sessions, almost 40 EXPO exhibitors, and hundreds of members, colleagues, and delegates all coming together to celebrate the importance of our sector and the work of community, voluntary, and social innovation organisations across Ireland.

Why not check out the programme at www.wheel.ie and keep an eye for more updates as the day progresses!
