1st Leg Winter League Results
Sunday 27th September 2026 – Deadbaiting Competition
A great day out on the water for the opening leg of the Winter League! There was a solid stamp of fish caught throughout the day and usual craic was had.
A big well done to one of our juniors Cian who smashed his PB with a fish of 10 pound which also got him heaviest fish of the day.

Results:
🥇 1st – Rodney Gaynor
4 fish for 32.10 lb
🥈 2nd – Jay Cooke
2 fish for 19.00 lb
🥉 3rd – Sean O'Brien
3 fish for 13.13 lb

Heaviest Fish – Cian Hooper (Junior)

🎣 Kev Magee Memorial 🎣

A massive thank you to everyone who came along and fished the Kev Magee memorial boat competition yesterday.

It was a day full of great fishing, plenty of laughs and, most importantly, plenty of memories and stories about Kev. There were some great stories shared throughout the day, reminding us all of the character Kev was and it’s clear to see the mark he left on everyone.

A particularly special part of the day was having Kev’s brothers join us for the presentation and say a few words. It meant a lot to the club and to everyone who was there, and we were honoured to have them with us and present the winning trophy.

I’d also like to thank two of Kev’s closest mates Ste Emmett Darren Walsh and Shane Gannon who supplied a beautiful trophy for the winners of the competition. A nice touch lads, well done.

Results for top 9 boats are below but well done to the birthday boy Fran Crosbie and his boat partner Anto Byrne on the win, it was tight right up to the final whistle with Fran and Anto behind by 1.5cm until Fran managed to net a 95cm and take the lead by 11cm with only a few mins to go.
Also well done to Will Carney with a cracking fish coming in at 108cm which took longest fish of the day.

Ok everyone, only a few days left until the Kev McGee memorial open boat competition, hope everyone is looking forward to it. A great way to remember our dear friend.

A couple of things to note, Shannon bridge and banagher are the two main slipways around the area. Shannon bridge slipway is very steep at the moment with the water levels been so low and parking might be a bit tight in the carpark across the road with camper vans and trailers. Banagher should be fine but it’s up to you guys to decide where you want to launch.

•Check in at Shannon bridge between 8 to 9:30

•3 longest fish per boat and one longest fish overall

•One person per boat dedicated to sending pictures via WhatsApp so ensure your phone is fully charged and WhatsApp downloaded

•Badge and full fish needs to be in the picture or the fish will not count

•Measuring boards will be provided at check in and must be returned after the competition

•Fishing starts at 10am, anyone seen fishing before the start time will be disqualified

•Fishing ends at 4pm, all pictures must be in by 4

•Fishing between Athlone and Banagher, you can fish any water you come across within that section i.e. back waters or the suck.

The measured fish are the ones that count but don’t be afraid to send us in some photos of you with your catch for the page.

Kev was more than just a club member – he was part of the Leinster Pike Angling Club family from the very beginning in 2014. His passion for pike fishing, his friendship, and his great sense of humour made him someone everyone enjoyed sharing a boat or a bank with. He is sadly missed by all who knew him.

This competition is our way of remembering Kev and celebrating his life by doing what he loved most – spending a day on the water with friends, chasing pike.

All right lads, it’s with a heavy heart I wish to inform you that our chairman Rodney’s dear mother has passed on. On behalf of the club I’d like to offer our sincere condolences to Rodney and his family at this sad time. May she rest in peace.

🎣 KEV MAGEE MEMORIAL BOAT COMPETITION

RULES & IMPORTANT INFORMATION

🏆 PAYOUTS & PRIZES

* 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
* 3 × Longest Fish per Boat — accumulated throughout the competition.
* Longest Fish of the Day — individual prize.
* €60 per boat — maximum 2 anglers per boat.

🎣 FISHING RULES

* No live scopes permitted.
* Only measuring boards are allowed.
* Fish are measured by length only — no weights required.
* No blood is permitted in photographs.

⏰ FISHING TIMES & CHECK-IN

Fishing time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Check-in: Shannon Bridge, beside Luker’s
Check-in time: 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM

* You can launch your boat anywhere between Athlone and Banagher, but you must check in at Shannon Bridge.
* Measuring boards will be provided at check-in.
* All measuring boards must be returned after the competition.

🚨 DISQUALIFICATION

A fish will be disqualified if:

* The photograph does not clearly show the fish on the measuring board.
* Blood is visible in the photograph.

An angler/boat will be disqualified if:

* You are caught using live scopes.
* You are caught fishing without life jackets.
* You are caught fishing after 4:00 PM.

Important: If a fish is hooked before 4:00 PM, you are allowed to continue playing that fish after 4:00 PM.

📸 PHOTO CHECK-IN

The competition finishes at 4:00 PM.

You have 1 hour after the competition to return to Shannon Bridge and check in your photographs.

Photo check-in closes at 5:00 PM sharp.

Results from Sunday's competition, we fished a river venue, The first half of the day was very good for most, second half blistering sun , good old Irish weather for June ☁️☁️🌦️🌦️☀️☀️

Well done to all that fished, the results as follows,

A bit late with the post but we held our annual boat competition at the end of April. A great weekend as always and plenty of decent fish caught.

A great results for Will Carney, taking the trophy home for 1st place for the second year in a row, great achievement!

Also, a big well done to one of our juniors Max O’Brien getting into the day and overall prizes with a beautiful fish for 13 pound 3.
