Irish Senior Citizens Parliament

Irish Senior Citizens Parliament The Irish Senior Citizens' Parliament is a representative organisation of Older People in Ireland.

The Parliament is a member of the Community & Voluntary Pillar within Social Partnership. Strengths include its access to this membership and its capacity to mobilise older people as evidenced in the medical cards demonstration in October 2008; its focus on disadvantaged older people and retired workers’ rights; and also its relationships within the political system that have facilitated access to senior politicians.

Our CEO Pat Mellon, MDO Sharon Casey, Vice-President Steve Petherbridge and other members were glad to be able to attend last Saturday's protest to support our fellow C&V Pillar members DFI. Pat's words "Often times the Disability Sector and the Senior Sector are seen as two very different parts, but it is all the one, vulnerability doesn't recognise age, race or anything else" "There is a big difference between dignity and charity, nobody here today is looking for charity, they are looking for dignity, they are looking for equality".
