We seek redress for those directly impacted by the anti-gay laws in Ireland repealed in 1993, including Disregards for past convictions; and to build an understanding of the harms done to the wider LGBT+ communities, with a restorative justice approach.

It's done!

Finally, the legislation to provide for Disregards for those convicted under Ireland's anti-gay laws has completed all stages in the Oireachtas and goes to the President for signature.

It is a remarkable and moving moment for the men unjustly convicted. They can finally see the injustice done to them by the State being addressed and the burden of criminality lifted for just expressing their love and affection for another man.

The Disregards Scheme will now be implemented, including outreach to those who emigrated because of persecution under those laws. We hope that trauma-informed support will help all those affected access the redress they deserve.

Justice for those persecuted under the former anti-gay laws in Ireland.

On Wednesday night the Dáil last night voted to pass legislation for a Disregard Scheme that provides redress to gay men for the harms done to them through unjust laws, which were repealed thirty-three years ago.

"The Bill passed last night rights a profound and historic injustice. It is a landmark moment for LGBTI+ rights and for human rights in Ireland. Men will no longer carry the consequences of laws that should never have existed in the first place” said Kieran Rose of the LGBT+ Restorative Justice Campaign.

Another milestone in the campaign for justice for those convicted under the anti-gay laws in Ireland that were repealed in 1993.

A Private Members Bill introduced by Aengus O Snodaigh TD and supported by Labour Party, Social Democrats, Green Party Ireland, People Before Profit and some independents, including now President Catherine Connolly when she was a TD, was debated in the recently.

Thoughtful contributions outlined the impact on those arrested or convicted under the laws, and also the harms done to other gay and bisexual men and to the wider LGBT+ community.

Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan TD accepted the Bill, and confirmed that he will bring forward his own legislation to provide for imminently.
