Our team is excited to be participating in Crucial Moves at Cork Midsummer Festival!

We are supporting Tight Spaces, an exhibition by Nike Ayoyemi at The MTU MicroGallery, 46 Grand Parade - running between 16-20 June.

Tight Spaces features a selection of work from photographer and activist Vukašin Nedeljković's Asylum Archive, which includes almost 6,000 photographs of Direct Provision centres. Vukašin spent two years housed in Direct Provision and initially used photography as a means of coping with life in a carceral for-profit system. He went on to build Asylum Archive to document a system that remains hidden in plain sight.

And Friday's event, Crucial Conversations: A panel about culture, systems, and spaces, will be hosted by Vicky Donnelly, Financial Justice Ireland's GCE specialist. Vicky will be discussing issues of local and global justice, climate, gender and economics with artists in attendance.

The panel will be held at 7pm at My Goodness Night-time Co-op at the Quay Coop and broadcast live on Éist Radio.

We're delighted to be undertaking this work as part of the Connecting the Dots EU DEAR programme.

Today is the first day of our collaboration with Clare Public Participation Network!

Together, we are supporting Dr Conor McCabe in delivering a two-day workshop series on 'How Money Works' - the workshops begin today, Friday the 12th, and continue Saturday, the 13th of June.

These workshops will cover how money functions as a social technology and will draw on ideas from progressive and feminist economics to assess how the Irish state functions today.

The aim is to help community activists understand economic class in Ireland today and support their work for social and political change.

A highlight of our team’s year so far was being given a walking tour of the IFSC by 5th-year Politics & Society students from Luttrellstown Community College.

We’re really pleased to announce an upcoming webinar covering one of today’s most urgent issues: wealth taxes.

The session will cover how wealth is defined, how it might be taxed, and contextualising wealth taxes amid soaring inequality, the rise of the right and declining democracy.

Joining us will be Dr. Tom McDonnell, co-director of the Nevin Economic Research Institute (NERI) and a lead researcher on Oxfam Ireland’s recent report on wealth inequality. We are delighted to have him lead us through key issues and to answer questions about how the tax system could be used to build a more just and sustainable world.

This session is designed with teachers in mind. We would like to support them in building confidence to engage young people on this topic and to bring the debate on tax justice to life in the classroom.

It will also be of interest to youth and community educators or anyone interested in economic literacy for social justice. All are welcome!

Financial Justice Ireland is a signatory to this important statement.

In addition to registering our horror at the prospect of escalating imperial war, it notes that, alongside devastating loss of life, these wars deliver shocks to the global economy, with grave implications for heavily indebted nations whose debt-servicing capacity is severely undermined by related inflationary spirals.
