“I couldn't bear the thought of my children going to bed hungry.”

Emily never imagined she would need help putting food on the table. As everyday costs continued to rise, feeding her family became increasingly difficult.

When she turned to SVP for support, she found food, practical help and reassurance during a challenging time.

Ryan Tubridy is here until 3pm today at Vincent's Dun Laoghaire for a special pop-up second hand bookshop. Ryan is personally curating a selection of books on the shelves and is helping to sell them throughout the afternoon. Every book purchased helps make a difference, with all proceeds going directly to SVP.

Yesterday, we launched our Pre-Budget Submission 2027, calling on the Houses of the Oireachtas to make Budget 2027 a turning point for households struggling with the rising cost of living.

Teresa Ryan, SVP National President, was joined by Louise Bayliss, Head of Social Justice & Policy; Hannah Boylan, MESL Researcher; Allison O'Malley Graham, Social Justice, Research and Policy Officer; Nessan Vaughan, National Vice President; and Niamh Dalziel, Research and Policy Officer, who highlighted the growing financial pressures facing many households across Ireland and the urgent need for action.

Key recommendations include:
➡️ A €15 per week increase in core working-age social welfare rates.
➡️ An increase in the National Minimum Wage to €15.40 per hour.
➡️ Retention of four-week Fuel Allowance extension and increase in weekly payment by €4.
➡️ Greater support for families through childcare and child income measures.
➡️ An Additional Needs Payment to help ensure no household falls below a minimum income after housing costs.

Budget 2027 is an opportunity to deliver income supports that reflect the real cost of living and help ensure no one is left behind.

The Drop-In Centre at Ozaman House, Limerick, was thrilled to benefit from local Limerick Band Ruadh. After they launched their new album. The event raised €455 for the Centre.
Band frontman Eoghan Waters visited the centre to make the donation so he could see the Centre and all the wonderful services that are delivered there.

Since 2002, SVP's Drop-in Centre in Limerick has been providing vital daytime support to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. With a dedicated team of professional staff and around 30 committed volunteers, the Centre plays an essential role in supporting the Limerick community every day.

Thank you Ruadh and we wish you continued success.

Mid summer madness in Dungiven!

Last Thursday, members of the SVP Northern Ireland Team in partnership with SVP volunteers from Dungiven welcomed customers to a gorgeous summer event with a real community feel in the small town of Dungiven, Co. Derry.

At the event, pre-loved clothes, beautiful accessories and enticing homewares were on sale.

Thank you to Peach and Passion for the catering, and to Manager, Suzanne and all the volunteers for months of planning and so much energy on the day. Events like this don't just happen - they take heart, time, and teamwork.

Celebrating Caroline - 19 years of kindness!

Last week, our limerick drop-in centre team came together to celebrate Caroline Carmody - a volunteer of 19 years and staff member for nearly 3.

Caroline has been at the heart of Ozanam House, supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues, it was a lovely moment to celebrate someone who gives so much to SVP.
