We’re excited to launch a new suite of accessibility resources with practical guidance on accessible recruitment, events and commissioning, alongside guides to creating access riders and accessible marketing. 💫

Originally developed by Unlimited to support disabled artists and adapted for the Irish context with their generous support, these resources are part of our ongoing work to expand and diversify supports for artists and arts workers.

A huge thank you to the team at Unlimited for this collaboration.

“It’s care from the top down — institutions down to employees, artists, and people within — and it’s care from the bottom up as well.”

Multidisciplinary artist Dafe Pessu Orugbo reflects on the culture of care that lies at the heart of Safe to Create’s mission.

Safe to Create is a collaborative programme of supports dedicated to fostering safer, more respectful, and inclusive working environments across the arts and creative sectors. The programme works to strengthen workplace culture and practices by providing guidance, resources, and supports for artists, arts workers, and organisations.

Safe to Create is managed by Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) in partnership with the The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Screen Ireland, and Minding Creative Minds, on behalf of the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport .

‼️Resource Highlight from the Sector:

Through its Inclusive Museums Ireland project, The Hunt Museum collaborated with blind and visually impaired people, as well as autistic people, to identify barriers to access and make practical changes that have helped create a more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible museum experience for everyone.

Many of the barriers to access and inclusion identified by members of the working group at The Hunt Museum are now shared across museums, galleries, and cultural heritage sites throughout Ireland. These digital learning resources are intended for staff working at all levels within these settings.

The project ran from December 2023 to October 2024. It was funded by Rethink Ireland’s ‘Disability Awareness & Participation Fund’.

We’re delighted to mark yet another major milestone: 850 signatories have now adopted the Dignity at Work Code of Behaviour, including almost 600 organisations. 💫

Together, these organisations and individuals have pledged to foster safe, inclusive and respectful workplaces—where artists, arts workers and creatives can thrive, free from all forms of harmful behaviour.

If you haven’t yet adopted the Code, now is the time to get involved.

We encourage arts organisations and individuals to formally sign up and publicly demonstrate their commitment to putting these principles into practice.

Join a growing network dedicated to positive change by signing the Code today. Safe to Create is here to support you every step of the way.
