Foróige FAQ 💚💜
Hi folks! Just a quick post for those who aren't familiar with Foróige as an organisation, to answer some questions you might have if you're considering joining, or having a young person you know join!
1. What is Foróige?
Foróige is Ireland’s national youth development organisation, working with young people across the country. 🤝 At its heart, Foróige is about giving young people the space, support and opportunities to grow, have their voices heard and get involved in their communities.
2. What do young people actually do in the Foróige Club?
Honestly... a bit of everything! 💫 We take our direction from the young people themselves and club nights can include games, chats, creative activities, projects, trips, fundraising, community events and plenty of time just to hang out and have fun. No two Foróige Clubs are exactly the same!
3. What do young people get out of being involved?
It's about much more than having something to do on a Friday night. Young people can build confidence, make friends, develop new skills, learn to work as a team, take responsibility and have real opportunities to make decisions and try things for themselves.
4. Who is Foróige for and who can join?
Foróige Clubs are open to young people in the local area, with different types of clubs catering for different age groups. 🙌 Our Aston Village Club is for secondary-school young people, with membership open to those who meet our age requirements. You don't need to be a certain type of person or already have any particular skills, just come along and get involved!
5. How does Foróige benefit the wider community?
Youth work doesn't just benefit young people, it benefits the communities they're part of too! 🫂 Foróige Clubs give young people opportunities to get involved locally, contribute to their communities and develop the skills and confidence to become future volunteers and community leaders.
And that's really what Foróige is all about: giving young people a place to belong, a voice in what they do, and the opportunity to discover what they're capable of. 💚
Aston Village Foróige Club is accepting new members! We are based in Aston Village ETNS (in the P.E. hall) every friday during term time from 7pm to 8:30pm.
