Old HSE Building – Community Update
Delgany Community Council (DCC) and Delgany Tidy Towns (DTT) wishes to update residents on the recent planning decision for the Old HSE Building, one of the few remaining heritage landmarks in the Delgany Architectural Conservation Area (ACA).
The decision issued by Wicklow County Council (WCC) is confusing, as the application sought three short‑term rental units and one long‑term unit, yet Condition 1 instead provides for one very small short‑term unit (under 21 sq m) and two long‑term units — all without any parking provision in a highly sensitive heritage setting.
Regardless of this inconsistency, DCC’s core concerns remain the same:
• Short‑term tourist let is not appropriate in this landmark Protected Structure.
• The building is one of the last surviving heritage sites in the village and deserves strong protection.
• Due process and adherence to WCC’s own ACA and heritage policies are essential.
• The Heritage Council has also made an important submission on this application.
In light of these concerns, DCC has lodged an appeal with An Coimisiún Pleanála to ensure the proposal receives full, independent assessment.
We will continue to keep the community informed as the appeal progresses.
