One of the lads in the station had a car up for sale online. He received a call from what sounded like a genuinely interested punter. The caller asked all the right questions and even if there was room for a bit of negotiation on the price. All was going well until the prospective buyer asked was there a HPI check on the car, our chap replied that a Cartell report could be made available but the caller was insistent that his 50 point check ticked all the boxes and wanted that. They couldn't come to agreement as our chap refused to accept a link to the caller's HPI check. The caller hung up saying 'I will not be buying your car'.
A little research after included ringing the number back, didn't exist, 'spoofed' number and also 'Googling' the scam, apparently well known. What happens is when you enter your details, it goes into a cloned fake site that harvests your financials and cleans out your account!!
