Critical CFR - Douglas was delighted to be selected by The Hospital Saturday Fund to receive grant funding of €1,500 to enable our ongoing community response in Douglas!

We rely fully on grants and donations to keep our volunteers equipped & trained. Life saving equipment is expensive - from the AEDs, to airway management, and the PPE needed to keep us safe on calls.

The Hospital Saturday Fund is a registered charity and the parent company of HSF Health Plan. For over 150 years, they have been providing assistance through charitable funds in the UK and Ireland. All profits made by HSF Health Plan are channelled to its parent charity. This allows HSF to support medically-associated charities and individuals in the form of grants

Delighted to provide a "Hands for Life" CPR training course organised by the Aylesbury Residents' Association at Cork Constitution Rugby Club this evening. It's fantastic to have an additional 24 people trained in our community on the basics of life support - well done to all who attended!

From our Critical CFR - Carrick on Suir colleagues - an amazing story with a great outcome.

A volunteer community first responder (CFR) from Tipperary, who attended a call for a local person experiencing chest pains, never imagined that he too would be needing the support of his volunteer colleagues and the National Ambulance Service before the end of the day.

Gerry Fitzgerald, a member of CRITICAL’s Carrick-on-Suir CFR group, was walking near his home in Carrick-on-Suir when he began experiencing severe chest pain. He quickly recognised what was happening, returned home and dialled 999. 'I gave the information to the call taker and asked them to activate the CFR group straight away. A member of the team was at my house within two minutes.'

'The relief my wife and I felt when Michael arrived with all the gear was incredible, I knew I was in safe hands. It seemed like the stars aligned for me that day because an ambulance was available and arrived shortly after.'

'I even knew the crew because we had both responded to a chest pain call earlier that day. Everyone worked together brilliantly, and I was brought to hospital in Clonmel.'

'My own experience meant that I really knew the difference we can make as first responders. I received really good care, and it’s great to be able to do that for someone else in my local community'
