Douglas Village Shopping Centre

Emergency calls can happen anywhere, any time. That's why tonight, we took our training session outside, where volunteer responders were presented with an unresponsive patient in Mount Oval.

Faced with rain & dark conditions, safety assessments and quick decisions were made, resulting in the full recovery of our fantastic patient!

Two of our responders made their way to a live emergency call during tonight's training - thank you Nicky & Ross!

Last weekend, we met Dee Kennedy and her family during our CPR demonstration at Douglas GAA Club.

Earlier this summer, Dee’s family had to call 999 when her dad became unwell at home. Community First Responder, Ross, received the alert and made his way to their address.

“The morning my dad had a heart attack was the most frightening day of my life. Seeing the first responder – Ross – coming in the door, a familiar face, I knew I had help.”

Ross and paramedics from National Ambulance Service (NAS) treated Dee’s dad at the scene before he was transported to hospital. His heart attack was successfully treated, and he is now back home and on the road to recovery.

Dee has turned this frightening experience into positive action for the community. She is now fundraising to install a public access defibrillator in Grange, helping to ensure that lifesaving equipment is available to the community when it is needed.

Any remaining funds from the fundraiser will be donated to CRITICAL CFR Douglas.

We wish Dee’s dad continued recovery, and we’re hugely grateful to Dee and her family for turning their experience into something that could help save another life.
