And that's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who made 2021/22 IR Soc's best year yet!

From collaborating with the University and other brilliant Societies on Model COP26, to holding UCC Societies' first post-COVID foreign trip to the ScotMUN conference, and not to mention our weekly Model UN debates, the year was a great success!

Stay tuned for next year, we have some exciting announcements coming up in September!

Tonight we are running our final event in West Wing 5. This will be our annual FunMUN Crisis, where we take a step back from discussing politics and topical issues and instead have a far less serious Model UN debate where anything goes! Our crisis scenario is as follows:

The island of Ireland has split up into 32 separate counties, with each county unilaterally declaring its independence. Each county also has a different form of government, from the Tsardom of Westmeath to the (literal) People's Republic of Cork. These 32 new nations are now experiencing their very first UN General Assembly as new nations, but will political and cultural differences between the counties prove too much for the UN to handle? Can peace be achieved or will one county reign supreme? Come to West Wing 5 at 6PM tonight to find out! Followed by a social!

On Wednesday 30/3 in Council Chambers we will be finishing our debate on the protection of civilians in urban warfare.

This will be immediately followed by our AGM at 7, which will be run as a hybrid event with the option of attending in-person or online. The positions available are as follows:

Join IR Soc tonight for our latest weekly Model UN debate. This week, we will be focusing on the protection of civilians in urban warfare. With the ongoing siege of Mariupol, Ukraine raising questions pertinent to this topic, IR Soc will have to try to find the best solution going forward for protecting civilians in conflict zones. We will also be giving a debriefing session from our highly successful ScotMUN trip to Edinburgh, and the details of our upcoming AGM will be given also!

Join IR Soc this Wednesday at 6PM in West Wing 9 for our first ever Model European Council in collaboration with the Europa Society!

The focus for this summit will be the sanctions against Russia in light of their illegal declaration of war on Ukraine. You can represent an EU Member State of your choosing and either participate in the debate or just sit back and watch! No prior knowledge or experience is required to participate, we will brief everyone on the format on the day!

Tonight IR Soc continues with its UN Peacekeeping series with our first Historical UN Security Council simulation of the year!

In 2011, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1973 allowing a limited military intervention into Libya.

11 years on, can the UCC Security Council help Libya pave a better path forward?

IR Soc is back with our first event of the new semester! 🇺🇦

This Wednesday at 6PM, join the International Relations Society in West Wing 9 for a Model UN debate on the current situation in Ukraine. Will Russia invade? Should NATO provide support to Ukraine? How can the international community ensure Ukrainian sovereignty is respected? Join us to find out!

We have an exciting week ahead of us with our final event of the semester before exams, it promises to be the best one yet!

For our annual Christmas Crisis, Santa has gone missing on Christmas Eve, and world leaders must meet and find a solution to the crisis at hand! Was a country involved in shooting down Santa's sleigh? Has North Korea kidnapped Saint Nick? Come along to West Wing 5 at 6PM this Wednesday to find out!

IR Soc is bringing back our populae Halloween-themed Model UN tomorrow night!

In this special session of the United Nations General Assembly, world leaders from history have risen from the dead and have taken over their countries once again!

The undead world leaders, ranging from de Valera to Lenin to Henry VIII, must convene to organise a unified zombie response on how to ensure a complete zombie takeover in their war against the humans. Join us in WW5 tomorrow night at 6 to see if the zombies can take over before Halloween night is out!
