The NMH deal from Minister Donnelly means a Catholic ethos will govern the new hospital. It is divisive and sectarian. It copper fastens the power of the Catholic church in the 26 counties and dismisses minority religions. It tramples on the concept of inclusivity.

Join the Rally on Saturday 14th May at the Dáil to demand an immediate stop to the handover of the Hospital ✊🏻

Children with disabilities are being badly let down by a system that is underfunded and understaffed. This can and must change! Protests work. Getting feet on the streets is the best way to draw attention to our plight.

Today, on World Health Day, we ask why the Irish people have been denied a functioning health service.

Why, after a 100 years of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, has nothing been done to ensure Irish people have access to healthcare? Why are the DUP allowing the NHS to be auctioned off to the highest bidder? We live in one of the richest countries in the world. Why is our health service in shambles, with people on trolleys, waiting years to get the help they need to live full and healthy lives?

Why can our nurses, our junior doctors, our security people, our domestic staff, our catering staff, our allied healthcare professionals be paid a fair and livable wage? Why are they stretched to the limit every day? Why can we not have more beds and more staff? Why must our hospitals be run on a shoestring so there is no buffer if something like the Covid-19 pandemic hits?

Covid-19 has highlighted this crisis for everyone. But the reasons for this collapse go back decades. The government has imposed austerity when we should be investing in our communities. A properly resourced publically funded health service is well known to be extremely cost effective. Where there are more extensive public health systems - like Belgium or Denmark – state spending on healthcare is 10% of GDP, whereas in the United States where private healthcare is the norm, the equivalent figure is 17%.

Something has to give. We need change now.
Let’s listen to our healthcare workers, the unions and the INMO.

Since last week, we've been hearing serious warnings from medical organisations representing hospital staff on the fallout from the latest surge in Covid numbers.

We call for a comprehensive publically funded healthcare system, that supports people from the cradle to grave and that pays healthcare workers!
