Empowering Communities Athy Our Shared Plate

🌿🌸 A Fantastic Saturday in Athy – Celebrating Nature, Food & Community! 🌸🌿

What a wonderful day we had in Athy on Saturday! ☀️💚

In collaboration with Our Shared Plate and Empowering Communities, we hosted a fantastic event bringing together children, parents and adults from the Athy West Urban Area for a day filled with biodiversity, creativity, cooking and community connection! 🌍🤝

🌿 Exploring Nature & Getting Creative! 🎨🍃

The children enjoyed a brilliant Biodiversity Walk, facilitated by the wonderful Georgina, where they had the opportunity to explore their local environment, discover the beauty of nature and learn more about the biodiversity on their doorstep. 🐝🦋🌼

The fun continued with a creative plant-printing activity, giving the children a chance to turn nature into their very own works of art! 🍂🎨

👩‍🍳 Cooking Up Something Delicious! 🍝🍎

Meanwhile, parents and adults rolled up their sleeves for a fantastic hands-on cooking session, facilitated by Ann.

On the menu was a delicious vegetable pasta, followed by a comforting apple crumble dessert! 😋🥕🍏

A lovely opportunity to share cooking skills, explore simple, nutritious meals and enjoy some time together.

💚 Community, Connection & Collaboration!

Events like these are about so much more than the activities themselves. They bring people together, encourage learning, celebrate our natural environment and create opportunities for families and neighbours to connect. 🌱❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this week’s kids workshops so special! 💛

🚲 Monday: John from Infinity Cycles led a fantastic bike repair workshop, showing the kids how to stay safe on their bikes with hands-on tips like brake and saddle adjustments, fixing punctures, and keeping chains well-oiled.

🧁 Tuesday: Mary Rose guided a fun baking session where the kids got stuck in making delicious rice crispy buns (and enjoying them too!).

👕 Wednesday: We wrapped up the week with a colourful tie-dye workshop, creating some brilliant designs with great support from parents.

We really appreciate everyone’s time, energy, and support – it made the week such a success! 🌟

What an great day in Castlepark last Friday for the family fun day . The sun was shining , the green was full of smiles and it was great to see so many families together. A huge thank you to all the local services for their support

Reminder the Athy Cancer support group meets this Friday in the Athy youth Cafe from 11:30am until 1:30pm.

Over the coming months guest speakers will be visiting the group with various types of information and assistance.

Well done to the residents of Townspark for weeding , hedge trimming, grass cutting and planting flowers at the memorial garden brightening up the area. Thanks also to Kildare County Council Parks and Enviromental Departments for clearing a back alley way of illegal dumping, allowing the greenspace to be maintained once again.
