💙 Who you’d be today… a birthday letter to my beautiful boy Tomás in heaven 💙

Happy 20th birthday, my darling Tomás. As I write this, tears flow down my face as I wish I could see the man you’d have become, the laughter we’d share, the dreams you’d be chasing. Though I can’t, I know your dad my sweetheart John, your little sister, my little ray of sunshine Amelia, and all our loved ones who’ve gone before us—including your nanny, my wonderful mum—are celebrating you today as you truly deserve.

You were loved so deeply Tomás. You filled my heart with pride and joy every day of your 14 years. Your kindness, compassion, and gentle wisdom touched everyone who knew you. I was so proud to be your mum, and that love carries me forward each & every day.

Just want you to know that I’m doing okay, taking one step at a time, just like you, Amelia, & John would want me to. Life is hard, the grief is sometimes unbearable—but I carry you all in my heart always. I hope you’re proud of me and guiding me from above.

This week, I was meant to climb Fansipan in Vietnam as part of a charity trek, but it's been rescheduled to the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. I can picture you and Amelia teasing me: “Daddy’s birthday is Sept 7, mine is Oct 8, and yours is April 10… climb the mountain then to celebrate all of us!” And that’s exactly what I’ll do, my darling Amelia.

Today, I remember every precious moment we shared: your laughter, your music, and the way you lit up every room. I’ll visit your resting place with blue, white, and red flowers (to honour your love for Tommy Hilfiger), play our favorite songs, and watch our precious family videos. Tears will fall—and that’s okay. One hour at a time, moment by moment, I will remember you. Instead of blowing out candles, I’ll light one in your memory in church.

I’ll be okay, Tomás. I promise. ❤️

Love you to the sun, moon, and stars, to infinity and beyond.
Love, Mummy

UPDATE - hi everyone, just wanted to give you all an update on my trek to Vietnam for - initially we were scheduled to leave this Thursday 2nd April for our trek to Vietnam but due to flight restrictions (we were due to fly via Dubai - several attempts were made to try reroute us via other cities but it was just not possible) & the situation in the middle east, the decision was made to reschedule it to 24th September - 4th October instead.

Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity so far....it just means I have an additional 6 months to keep trekking here, keep putting one foot in front of the other & I'll get there...a little later than planned so it'll be a belated birthday trek for my beautiful boy Tomás (I'll mark his actual birthday here with a local trek), & with my John's birthday in September and my beautiful little girl Amelia's birthday in Oct...it'll be a memorial trek to mark all their birthdays

New year, new start, new goals, new adventures!!!

2026 will see me take on another challenge.... 2nd–11th April 2026 sees me taking part in a charity trek in Vietnam, including the climb of Fansipan Mountain, the highest peak in the country. This challenge is in support of in Crossfire, a charity that is incredibly close to my heart.

I had the privilege of working directly with Children in Crossfire in 2024 & 2025 - I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2025 to raise funds for their projects in Dar es Salaam & Dodoma. I was able to see first-hand the life-changing work they do with children & families living in extreme poverty. The impact they make is real, lasting, & deeply inspiring — & it’s why I’m committed to supporting them again this year. The funds raised from this trek will once again go towards Children in Crossfire’s vital projects in Tanzania, helping to improve healthcare, nutrition, education, & protection for vulnerable children.

The dates of this trek hold a very special significance for me. On 10th April 2026, my son Tomás should be turning 20. Tragically, I lost my beloved husband John, my son Tomás, and my daughter Amelia on 20th August 2020. Much of the charity work I do is in their memory, & this trek will be no different.

Climbing Fansipan during the week of my son’s birthday will be a deeply personal way to honour him — to turn grief into purpose, & to support children & families who need it most. Every step I take on this journey will be for Tomás, for John, for Amelia, and for the children whose lives are being changed through this incredible charity.

If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, you will be helping Children in Crossfire continue their essential work and keep hope alive for so many children. If you can’t donate, sharing this page would mean just as much.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support, kindness, and generosity,
kind regards

On behalf of The Mullan Hope Centre a heartfelt thank you to each & everyone of you for your continued support again in 2025 - €39,400 was raised this year & we are overwhelmed, in awe & delighted!!

February saw me take on my biggest challenge to date as I set off to climb Kilimanjaro. What made it even more poignant was my beautiful Mum (Margaret Connaughton) passed away on February 6th, a few days before I left for my trek. For me, it was a very personal challenge & one very close to my heart.Turning my milestone age of 50 on 1st March was a mixture of emotions for me but what better way to mark it - in honour of my family & raise more funds for Children in Crossfire, such a worthy charity. Due to everyone’s amazing generosity, the total raised was €32,500.

August saw us hold our annual charity motorbike run in aid of Blood Bikes Northwest - Ireland. We were again overwhelmed by everyone's generosity & raised €1750 for this amazing charity.

Similarly, our Greencastle regatta craft
market raised €400 for Donegal Hospice, another charity close to my heart.

In November we hired St. Eugene's Hall in Moville & held our annual Christmas craft market & our bumper Christmas raffle in aid of Vincents Moville. We were delighted to raise €3250 for them.

Our final fundraising event was our Good Will shop we ran for 6 weeks November/December. Special word of thanks goes to all the volunteers who helped out during our 6 week stent. We chose 6 local groups - Moville GAA Club, Musical Memories, St Eugene's Hall, Movillle Christmas Tree Committee, Moville Tidy Towns & Moville Men's Shed & we were delighted to give out the monies to them last week.

Because of all your continued support, 2025 has proved to be a very successful year! Huge credit to the amazing work of the committee members who always wholeheartedly give 150% to everything.

My final words as we enter Christmas Eve, is to wish you all a happy & peaceful Christmas, cherish every moment, hug & kiss your loved ones dearly & never lose hope!!

On behalf of The Mullan Hope Centre a heartfelt thank you to each & everyone of you for your continued support again in 2025.....€39,400 was raised this year & we are once again overwhelmed, in awe & delighted!!

Due to unforeseen circumstances Storms Darragh & Eowyn causing extensive damage to the tunnels, it wasn’t feasible to repair them, so we had to think outside of the box to maintain our fundraising.

February saw me take on my biggest challenge to date as I set off for Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro. What made it even more poignant & emotional was my beautiful Mum (Margaret Connaughton) passed away on February 6th, a few days before I left for my trek. But she would have been the first to tell me to go as I had all the training done, & she knew how much it meant to me. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres (19, 340 feet) & is one of the world’s top seven summits – it’s nearly eight Croagh Patricks! Temperature there
is a pleasant 32 degrees Celsius at the base & a chilling -17 at its peak.

For me, it was a very personal challenge & one very close to my heart. In April 2024, I had the privilege of working with Richard Moore & his Children in Crossfire charity organisation. Tomás should have been celebrating his 18th birthday in April so we organised a 5km fun run/walk in his memory & for Richard’s charity, specifically a project in Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania. The timing was also significant as the trip would conclude one day before I turned fifty. Turning this milestone age was a mixture of emotions for me but what better way to mark it - in honour of my family & raise more funds for this worthy charity. It was tough, it was gruelling, it was challenging but it also was the most amazing experience & something that will stay with me forever, reaching the summit the morning of Sunday 23rd February. My fund-raising goal for Children in Crossfire was €7,000 but due to everyone’s amazing
generosity, the total was €32,500.

August saw us hold our annual charity motorbike run in aid of Blood Bikes Northwest - Ireland. My amazing dad, Mautie Connaughton, 87 years young, tried his hand & enjoyed it. We were again overwhelmed by everyone's generosity & raised €1750 for this amazing charity. This annual event now in its 5th year, is growing year on year & it's great to see!!

Similarly, our Greencastle regatta craft
market raised €400 for Donegal Hospice, another charity close to my heart.

In November we hired St. Eugene's Hall - Moville & held our annual Christmas craft market & our bumper Christmas raffle in aid of Vincents Moville. We were delighted to raise €3250 for them, again all thanks to everyone's generosity.

Our final fundraising event was our Good Will shop we ran for 6 weeks November/December. Once again, myself & the committee would like to thank everyone for the support. Special word of thanks goes to all the volunteers who helped out during our 6 week stent - your experience & advice was key over the 6 weeks to ensure everything ran smoothly. Many thanks to everyone for the donation, purchases or just calling in for a chat, it was great to see such a hive of activity & support. The winner of our hamper was Anna Mc Gonagle, Ard Foyle, Moville.

We wanted to give back to the community so after careful deliberation, we chose 6 groups - Moville GAA Club, Musical Memories, St Eugene's Hall, Movillle Christmas Tree Committee, Moville Tidy Towns & Moville Men's Shed & we were delighted to give out the monies to them last week.

So because of all your continued support, 2025 has proved to be a very successful year for such amazing charities!! It wouldn't be possible without the amazing work of the committee members who always wholeheartedly give 150% to everything we plan. My beloved John Tomás and Amelia would be so proud of each & everyone of you, as am I.

My final words as we enter Christmas Eve, is to wish you all a happy & peaceful Christmas, cherish every moment, hug & kiss your loved ones dearly & never lose hope!!

Go raibh mile maith agat to Geraldine Mullan and her team from The Mullan Hope Centre for their donation to the Club this week ❤️!

Geraldine has nominated six local charities and community projects to benefit from HOPE’s recent stint at the Good As New shop and we were very grateful to be one of them 🩵💙.

Con, Brigid & Anthony were delighted to meet Geraldine earlier on to accept the donation at Carrick Field on behalf of the Club & community 👏👊👏.

We were delighted to receive this generous cheque from Geraldine of The Mullan Hope Centre , following their annual Charity Motorbike Run, it was fantastic to see almost 70 bikers take part — a brilliant turnout and a clear sign that this event is going from strength to strength year on year.

On behalf of everyone at Blood Bikes North West, a heartfelt thank you to Geraldine, the Mullan Hope Centre, all the organisers, riders, and supporters for their continued generosity and support.
