The talk will be about the impact of Mayo people on the impact of the revolutionary period in Galway looking at members of the IRA and Cumann na mBan as well as clergymen and members of the police. The talk will help give a general understanding of the period in both counties as well as some stories that aren't well known.

🌙 We’re doing it again!🌙

For the third year running, the Fairhill team are getting the sleeping bags out and taking part in Sleep Out for Simon💙

Last year we managed to raise a brilliant €2,719, following on from €2,595 in our first year, which is something we’re really proud of, and it’s all down to the amazing support we get from everyone around us!

This year we’ll be sleeping out outside Fairhill House Hotel again on Friday, 2nd October, from 6pm right through to 6am.

And we’d love to see a few familiar faces joining us! You don’t have to commit to the full night, come down for an hour, or be brave and stick it out until morning!😂 Every donation, no matter how big or small, is hugely appreciated.

We’ve also set up a Clonbur team this year, so if you’re from around the area and fancy getting involved, we’d love to have you. Whether you’re coming on your own, with a few friends, or you’re part of another local group or club, come and join the Fairhill staff and help us raise as much as we can - send us a DM for more information!

Galway Simon do some fantastic work supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping them get into a safe place and giving them the support they need to get back on their feet. It’s a great cause and one we’re delighted to get behind each year. 💙

This is just a little save-the-date for now....
We’ll have more information on the night, the Clonbur team and how you can donate coming very soon.

So for now… 2nd October, 6pm. Sleeping bags at the ready!🥶😂

We hope you’ll join us! 💙

Thinking of the communities affected by these devastating flash floods.

FLOODS IN NEPAL

On August 26, a massive glacier collapsed along the Nepal- China border, triggering a massive rock-and-ice avalanche.
The avalanche swept many people into devastating flash floods.
More than 160 people were reported dead, and over 1,400 are missing.
The collapse appears to have been caused by an unstable Himalayan glacier resulting from global warming.
The floodwaters intensified as they slammed down the valleys of the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, generating enormous force.
The collapse generated seismic energy equivalent to a 5.2-magnitude earthquake. However, it has not been confirmed that an earthquake triggered the collapse.

The Global Geoparks Network (GGN) and its Geohazards Working Group extend heartfelt condolences to the affected communities and tourists.
As Geoparks focus on climate change and geohazards in their educational programs, the GGN and its working group are committed to mitigating natural disasters caused by climate change and geohazards.
