⚠️ **KNOCKAUNAKILL RESIDENTS BEWARE** ⚠️

This photomontage on the cover page of this FACEBOOK PAGE has been identified within the planning application as the **worst-case scenario** for the proposed 7-turbine wind farm.

Each turbine will stand approximately **160 metres high**, dominating the landscape and dwarfing nearby homes, farms and fields.

This is not a small development. It is a major industrial project proposed within the historic Mayo Abbey landscape.

How will local residents adapt? How will wildlife adapt? How will future generations view the countryside we leave behind?

🏑 Protect our homes.

🌧️ On 23rd November 2024, during Storm Bert, a local resident who has lived in Knockaunakill for most of his life could hardly believe what he saw when came off the N60 turing onto the Mossbrook Road

After turning off the N60, he was met with extensive flooding on roads and lands that local people know all too well can struggle during periods of heavy rainfall.

Now, in 2026, many of the trees in this area have been felled. This raises an important question for our community:

❓ What will happen if the proposed 7 industrial-scale wind turbines, associated roads, hardstanding areas, drainage works, substation infrastructure and forestry clearance proceed?

Will the removal of more vegetation and the alteration of natural drainage patterns increase surface water runoff and flooding risks for local homes, farms and roads?

These are reasonable questions that deserve clear answers before any decision is made.

πŸ’§ Flooding is not a theory here β€” it has happened.

🌳 The landscape is already changing.

🏑 Local communities deserve reassurance that existing problems will not be made worse.

Please make your voice heard and submit your observations on Planning Reference 2660398 before the closing date 23rd Jume 2026 by 4:00 p.m

🚨 **ZOOM IN TO THE COVER PAGE CLAREMORRIS, BEWARE – AND ALL RESIDENTS FROM CLAREMORRIS TO BALLA** 🚨

A major industrial wind farm development is being proposed for the Mayo Abbey area. The cover picture shall be your view for 35 years.

The proposed **Cunlaghfadda Green Energy Project** consists of **7 industrial-scale wind turbines**, each reaching a blade tip height of **160 metres**, together with extensive associated infrastructure.

πŸ“ Proposed location:
Cunlaghfadda, Cloonbaul, Knockaunakill, Harefield and Knockroe, Mayo Abbey.

If approved, these turbines will be visible across a wide area and from sections of the **N60**, permanently altering the landscape surrounding Mayo Abbey, Claremorris and neighbouring communities.

🏞️ Many residents value this area for its rural character, open countryside and views of the surrounding landscape. These views form part of what makes this part of Mayo such a special place to live, work and raise families.

⚠️ This is not simply a proposal for a few turbines. It is a large-scale industrial development that will affect residents, wildlife, the landscape and future generations for decades to come.

πŸ—£οΈ The people most affected by this proposal deserve to have their voices heard.

πŸ“… The deadline for objections and observations is **23 June 2026**.

Please take the time to review the application and make your own informed decision.

Application Number: 2660398

🐦 Curlew in Knockroe – May 2023 🐦

This video was recorded in Knockroe in May 2023 and captures the unmistakable look of the Curlew, one of Ireland’s most iconic and endangered bird species.

Curlews have been visitors to our area for many years, returning to the same landscapes of bog, wet grassland, rough grazing and open countryside that they depend on for nesting, feeding and raising their young.

As a community, we cannot help but wonder what impact a proposed development of 7 industrial-scale wind turbines, associated infrastructure, access roads, and a 4-acre substation site could have on one of Ireland’s most threatened birds.

The Curlew has suffered dramatic declines across Ireland, making every remaining habitat and breeding area increasingly important. Surely it is only right that detailed surveys and assessments are carried out to fully understand how this development could affect local Curlew populations and the wider biodiversity of the area.

🌿 Once lost, these habitats cannot easily be replaced.
🐦 The Curlew’s haunting call is part of our natural heritage.
πŸ’š Future generations deserve the chance to hear it too.
