Match Recap: Butterflies United vs Brotherhood Rising FC ⚽️

Full Time Result:

🔵 Brotherhood 4 - 4 Butterflies 🟣
(Butterflies United win on penalties! 🏆)
What an unforgettable day of football! We organized this match in loving memory of Pa**ie Smith, and it couldn't have been a more fitting tribute. A truly special moment of the day was presenting the Pa**ie Smith Memorial Shield to Pa**ie's mother. In an incredibly touching gesture, she then presented the shield to us as the winning team—a moment our squad will treasure forever. 🩷✨

A massive thank you to our sponsor, Janette Crowe—without her, these jerseys simply wouldn't have happened. They are absolutely beautiful, and having her son tog out to be a part of the team made the day even more special. We hope we’ve made ye all proud!

A huge special thanks goes out to KTS for her dedication, hard work, and relentless effort in bringing these kits to life. On top of that, she also made the incredible gold and silver medals for both teams, which look amazing! Without her, none of this would have come together. 👕🏅✨

As for the game itself, it was an absolute thriller. After an intense 4-4 battle at the final whistle, it went down to a dramatic penalty shootout where the Butterflies managed to hold our nerves and take the win! 👏 Huge respect to Brotherhood Rising FC for putting up an incredible fight and being brilliant hosts on the pitch.

We also want to give a huge shoutout for the amazing spread of food served after the game—a heartfelt thanks to Chapter One, Barry Johns, and Manor Hill Home Bakery for fueling us with such incredible food! 🥪🍰

Thank you to everyone who came out, supported, and made this day so unforgettable. We look forward to sharing the pitch again very soon! 💙🩷🦋

🦋 Walking for Hope: Support Niall Byrne’s 253km Coast-to-Coast Journey for Mental Health🦋

At Butterflies United, we believe in the power of connection, transformation, and speaking up. Today, we want to spotlight an incredible effort by Niall Byrne and his movement, Labhair Suas ("Speak Up").
This coming October, Niall is taking on a massive coast-to-coast challenge—walking 253 kilometers across Ireland from Blackrock Diving Tower in Salthill, Galway, to Howth Lighthouse in Dublin via the Royal Canal Greenway. That is the equivalent of 6 marathons back-to-back in 6 days, all in aid of Mental Health Ireland.
Why "Labhair Suas"?
"Labhair Suas" means Speak Up. This initiative was born out of real, raw human experience. Niall is stepping up and opening up to show that movement is medicine for the mind and that no one should ever have to suffer in silence.
Following the devastating loss of his son, born stillborn in 2016, Niall tried to carry the weight alone—a burden so heavy it led to a mental breakdown in 2017. Like so many, he believed strength meant staying silent. Today, he’s redefining true strength: having the courage to look pain in the eye, find your voice, and say: "I am struggling, but I am still standing."
This walk is dedicated to his son, to everyone fighting a silent battle, and to reminding us all that whatever you are carrying today, you take it step by step—Tóg é céim ar céim.
The Challenge Breakdown:
The Route: From the Atlantic Ocean (Salthill, Galway) to the Irish Sea (Howth Lighthouse, Dublin) via the Royal Canal Greenway.
The Distance: 253 Kilometers (6 Marathons in 6 Days).
The Dates: October 4th – October 10th.
The Goal: To advocate for peer support, unity, hope, break the stigma surrounding mental health, and raise vital funds for Mental Health Ireland.

How You Can Help Us Support Niall & The Cause:

1. Follow & Engage: Follow Byrne and to track his training, daily updates, and updates as he prepares for October.

2. Share the Message: Please share this post! Every share ensures someone out there who might be struggling sees that they don’t have to walk their path alone.

3. Start the Conversation: Check in on a friend, family member, or colleague today.
Let’s stand behind Niall as he turns pain into purpose and proves that small steps lead to massive change. 💚

⚽ Butterflies United is back in action! 🦋
On August 8th, our team Butterflies United takes to the pitch, and this match is one that means the absolute world to me and my family.
My dad and I set up Butterflies United not just for the love of the game, but to play for something so much bigger than football. This year’s game is being played in special honor and loving memory of our dear friend Patrick (Pa**ie) Smith, who we so sadly lost on December 20th, 2023. Pa**ie remains in our thoughts every single day, and we want to honor his memory by coming together as a team and community.

This match is being held in aid of Féileacáin, a charity that is extremely close to our hearts. Féileacáin provides essential support, memory boxes, and comfort to families affected by the loss of a baby. Everything they did for our family during such a tough time is something we will never forget, and we want to give back so they can continue supporting other families when they need it most. 💜

We’d love to see as many faces as possible on August 8th to cheer us on, remember Pa**ie, and support a brilliant cause! If you can’t make it on the day, even the smallest donation would mean the absolute world to us.

Saturday 8th of August
Kick off 2pm

The Brotherhood is delighted to announce that we are going to be playing another charity team Butterfliesunited

After recently talking to co founder of the Butterflies we have both agreed it would great to get these two teams together and put on a show.

For anyone that doesnt know about this amazing team here is their story

Meet the Team: Butterflies United 🦋
We wanted to share a little bit of the story behind Butterflies United, who we are, and why this team means so much to us.
Our journey started from a place of deep personal loss. Nine years ago, on the 24th of May 2017, we lost our beautiful Freya. Two years after her passing, Freya’s dad got involved with the Féileacáin Fathers football team. Féileacáin (The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland) does incredible work supporting bereaved parents, and their sister teams—the main squad in Dublin and Féileacáin Fathers South—provided a brilliant community and outlet.
After playing with them for the last number of years, dad decided it was time to branch out and start a brand-new team: Butterflies United.
Originally from Cavan but now living in Drogheda, he realized there was a need for a dedicated team covering the North East region. Butterflies United was born to fill that gap, bringing dads together while raising awareness and vital funds in aid of Féileacáin.

If youre free make sure to come down and show some love and support !

See yous there 💙

⚽️ GAME TIME ⚽️

We are absolutely delighted to announce our next big fixture against the lads from Brotherhood Rising FC. After linking up with them recently, we both knew we had to get these two squads on the same pitch to put on a great game for the community.
Before we face off, we want to put the spotlight on them.

If you don't already know the powerful story behind their special club, take a minute to read why this match means so much to everyone involved:

💙 Meet the Team: Brotherhood Rising FC 💙
Brotherhood Rising FC was born out of profound grief following the heartbreaking loss of their friend and brother, Aidan Deegan, on April 5th, 2025.
Before he passed, Aidan was actively building a dedicated men’s mental health platform—a safe haven where men could look out for one another and speak openly. To keep his vision alive, his closest mates formed a football club in his memory. They proudly adopted the exact name and crest from Aidan's original page to serve as their team identity.
Today, they are far more than just a football team; they are a family. They use the game to keep the lads connected, break the stigma surrounding men's mental health, and raise vital funds for SOSAD Ireland.
Two teams built from personal loss, both turning grief into a community lifeline through the power of football. This is going to be a special afternoon.

📅 Saturday 8th of August
⏰ Kick-off at 2:00 PM
📍 Cavan Astro Park (H12 YK79)
Get yourselves down to show some massive love and support for two brilliant causes.
See you all on the sidelines! 🦋🤝💙
