As most of you are aware, we are currently setting up the Carndonagh Community First Responders. We now have a dedicated committee in place and are working hard to get everything established properly for what will be a hugely valuable service to our community.
Living in such a rural area means ambulance response times can be delayed, sometimes taking over an hour to arrive. Our aim as Community First Responders is to provide quick support in emergency situations while an ambulance is on the way. Volunteers will be fully trained to attend house calls to support individuals with chest pain and other emergencies. First responders will have a defibrillator in someone’s house in approximately 10 minutes from getting the call. This time is vital when it comes to someone needing it.
We already have a fantastic group of people interested in volunteering, along with experienced paramedics who will be providing training and guidance. They know first-hand how important a service like this is for our area.
As with any new voluntary group, we need equipment and support to get started. This includes items such as:
• Defibrillators
• Training mannequins/dummies
• First aid equipment
• High-visibility vests
• Head torches and lighting
• Masks and PPE
• General training supplies
We will help in the Carndonagh town and outlying areas.
We are asking our local community, businesses, and anyone willing to support us for donations or sponsorships no matter how big or small. Every contribution will make a real difference and help provide potentially lifesaving assistance within our community.
If you would like to donate, sponsor equipment, or join the volunteer group, please send a message to the page. There is a Garda vetting process and some online courses involved, but volunteering is flexible and based on your availability.
This service will benefit every household in our area, and we would truly appreciate the community getting behind us.
Thank you all for your support.
