A great morning's work! This morning volunteers gave the church yard a good clean-up, and the paths are looking much better.
The job was done with our brand new Weedhex machine, purchased with funding from Limerick City and County Council through the Local Enhancement Programme. A big thank you to the Council for their support.
The machine will be put to good use around the town, helping us keep Bruff clean and tidy while avoiding chemical weedkillers.

There are nine species of bat established in Ireland and all are protected under both Irish and EU legislation. Bats are protected because of the important ecological services they provide and their role as indicators of the health of an ecosystem. A single bat can consume up to 3,000 insects per night as well as pollinate plants and disperse seeds.

While bats are common in our nocturnal landscapes, they are threatened by insensitive developments, night lighting and habitat loss. Old traditional farm buildings with nooks, crannies and gaps in the roof slates can be used by bats. The installation of bat boxes provides bats with a location for roosting in areas where appropriate roost sites may not be present.

The installation of Bat Boxes is an action many farmers participating in the Co-operation approach of the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme are undertaking as part of their Non-Productive Investments with funding from the Scheme.

Samhain is quickly approaching! The days are getting shorter and the wind is getting wilder! This year we have a full schedule of events happening at Lough Gur to celebrate Limerick as the Home of Halloween.
On Thursday October 29th we have a Samhain Scavenger Hunt. It will be running across the day. Participants will use their map to find various questions hidden through out the park. Each correct answer will allow children to unscramble a word, which they will then use to claim their prize in our visitor centre! Tickets can be purchased exclusively on http://loughgur.com (use the book now button on our homepage)
Tickets cost €7 and booking ahead of time is highly recommended as we cannot guarantee places will be available on the day.
