Time to organise against Wicklow County Council's rent hikes! In Dublin, after a months-long campaign, tenants have obtained that the Council will review the rent hikes. Renters across County Wicklow must come together to fight back against unfair rent hikes at a time when the cost of living is sky high. Shamefully, Wicklow County Council pushes ahead with rent hikes on November 7. It was your pressure that put the rent hikes on the agenda and got them delayed from October 3 to November 7. Now we need these rent hikes DROPPED for good. Don’t let Wicklow County Council get away with it.

We spoke to hundreds of Council, AHB and HAP tenants over the past two weeks. Across Ireland, CATU members are winning repairs, fighting evictions and challenging rent hikes. Join us and organise your estate!

Councils cannot expect to raise more income from people who are already struggling while the government sits on billions of euros in surplus.We fight for a system where we ALL have access to safe, dry, quality homes.

This means dropping the rent hikes, more public homes, and more investment in maintaining them.

Yesterday, CATU North Wicklow went out doorknocking in Drumkay, Rathnew. We had lots of good conversations with residents and the overwhelming response is that the council rent hikes that Wicklow County Council wants to impose must be dropped. Last night we went out doorknocking in Hillview, Wicklow Town and talked to neighbours about the outrageous rent increases brought by Wicklow County Council following last year's budget. People told us about 30% and 60% increases which you wouldn't even see in a private tenancy. We also have AHB and HAP members and relatives impacted by these rent hikes. Meanwhile Hillview estate has been shamelessly left behind by the Council and residents are left to live with mould, damp and rodent issues that have gone unaddressed for years.

How can we tolerate these rent hikes when these are the conditions council tenants live in? We also heard from HAP and AHB tenants having their rents increased 30%+ which you wouldn't even see in a private tenancy.

Sign our petition demanding the Council DROP the rent hikes now but more importantly sign up to JOIN the campaign. Only by coming together as tenants and other residents impacted by these issues can we fight back and win.

We will be at the protest on Monday 28 September 9.30am outside WCC buildings. We will keep door knocking in the coming days and weeks.

We say DROP the rent hikes!

In a cost of living crisis, in one of the wealthiest countries on the planet, when most of us are struggling to get by, Wicklow County Council executives have decided to increase rents of tenants of public housing, approved housing bodies, cost rental, people on HAP, and pensioners.

Meanwhile, essential repairs aren't being made. Estates that badly need retrofitting, like Hillview in Wicklow Town, are still waiting for funding and residents are left living with damp, mould and rodents.

While the government is awash with money and food and fuel prices are going up, now is the time to fight back!

Sign the petition to show you oppose the rent hikes and join the campaign tenants have started through the Community Action Tenants' Union to make the council DROP THE RENT HIKES!

Wicklow — In a shocking case highlighting the routine abuse tenants face from landlords in Ireland, a property owner has disposed of a vulnerable woman’s possessions before she could retrieve them from her former home. Community Action Tenants Union (CATU), which fights for the rights of those who rent, first drew attention to the matter in a social media post on August 19. They have told the Canary that now, two weeks later, the landlord Damian Flood is yet to return its member Tina’s belongings.
