A huge THANK YOU to the U15 boys and girls, and coache's, from CLG BHEARNA, who did a huge village clean-up this morning. Three seperate groups gathered a huge pile of rubbish in just one hour. We hope this will become a regular event, and that all the different age geoups will play their part, in helping out in their local community.

*VILLAGE CLEAN-UP, WITH CLG BHEARNA U15's*

On Saturday morning, at 10am, we will be meeting up with the U15's [boys & girls] football team's, at the pier, to do a village clean-up. We have been inforned that there could be up to FORTY youngster's + coache's, so we hope to get a good morning's work done.

We will mainly be concentraiting on litterpicking various area's around the village, but may also do some weeding, and sweeping, if we have sufficient number's.

We would like to sincerely thank CLG BHEARNA for the initiative, and the various coache's for taking the time to get the youngster's involved.

We hope it is just the start, and hope that we can get all of the junior team's involved throughout the year, and hopefully, get other local sporting organisation's involved, also.

****NEW (Jersey) SPONSOR - CHAMELEON****

On Thursday, April 2nd, we welcomed a new sponsor, who have covered the cost of our first batch of club jersey's, and, who will also be supplying a number of eye protection goggles, for our primary school's competition. The Jersey's are being produced, initially, for the last sixteen competitior's - (8 boy's & 8 girl's) - in the primary school's competition, which will hopefully be represented from all three school's in the parish.

A huge Thank you to local resident PADRAIC TIMON, who approached us recently, and offered to help out - on behalf of CHAMELEON - in some way.

We have designed - in conjunction with ATLANTIC PRINT - a Simple logo, that is specific to our local ball alley, in which we take great pride. We hope that the new jersey's will generate more interast in the game of handball, locally, and instill a sence of pride in the pupil's who wear them, and help us in our quest, to eventually form a junior handball club, in the Parish.

We hope to have the jersey's delivered in the next three week's, and display them ahead of the competition.

A chairde,

We have set a provisional date for our annual 'John Connolly memorial' competition on Sunday April 26th this year. Anyone over 16yr's is eligible, so, if you are interested in entering, please get in touch. We have also set a provisional date for our schools competition, on Sunday April 19th. Both dates will be confirmed at a later date.

The schools competition - for the Osman Tisani/Blackeen Bhearna shield (for Boy's and Girl's) will follow a different format this year, as last year was quite difficult to manage - we learn by our mistake's!! Full details will follow in due course

There has been quite a bit of interest from both school's, and it is great to see many of them already getting in some practise, as it is a brand new sport for all of them, and takes time to learn

Good morning, all.

On Saturday, last, we were involved in a major clean-up around Rusheen Bay. The clean-up was organised by PETER CANTILLON, of BirdWatch Ireland, and was well attended. A huge amount of rubbish was gathered, and brought to a pre-arranged point, for collection by Galway City Council. Afterwards, we were invited to Petrr's house for coffee and a chat.

We hope to link-in with this group, again, and do some further clean-up's in the future.

Thanks to all who helped out, and we look forward to meeting you again, in the near future.

Good morning all.

While we have been a bit quiet over the past year mainly due to the lack of numbers, we are still active but in a reduced capacity. We have just completed our winter planting, and are preparing to install the annual Christmas lighting.

This is always a good time of year to get people re-energized, and to plan for the year ahead, so with this in mind, we are having a volunteer coffee morning (in the early afternoon) on Saturday in Donnellys of Barna. While we hope that most of our regular volunteers will come along, we are also inviting anyone who might be interested in joining us.

IF YOU INTEND ON COMING ALONG, PLEASE NOTIFY US IN ADVANCE, AS WE NEED TO KNOW THE NUMBER ATTENDING

** BEARNA HANDBALL ON NATIONWIDE**

On friday, November 21st, a feature that was filmed at our local ball alley during the sumner, will be broadcast on the RTE programme 'NATIONEIDE' @ 7pm. A huge THANK YOU to John Kilraine, and his cameraman (Martin), who made the whole event so relaxed, and enjoyable for all involved.

We would also like to thank two local people who have help in no small way, to get us NATIONAL attention - Brendan McDonagh of Salthill Handball club, and Dara Bradley of the City Tribune - for which we are most grateful!

We have already visited two of the three primary schools in the Parish, as we look forward to the 'schools' competition next April. Hopefully, there is a bright future for the game of handball in the Parish.

A chairde,

We have almost completed our winter planting, with violas in the coloured boxes in the village, and in the planters at the ball alley. In the next day or two, Caroline Gannon will plant some bulds in the little bed, at an Leac Líath - thank you Caroline!.

Once again, thank you to Brian O' Donnell (landscape services Ireland), for giving our "Bearna" hedging a 'haircut', it makes such a difference. Thanks you also, to Michael Gill of (Gills Gardens), for continuing to sponsor the planters at the "Bearna"signs.

Thank you to all who helped in any way

Apologies if we are a little late with this, but we just have to 'hand' it to Liam Hickey, for the fabulous halloween display - it just gets better every year, and is a huge hit with the pupils from the local school...well done Liam!!

A chairde,

As some of you already know, we did not submit an entry into the Tidy Towns competition this year. The reason is simply because we have done very little this year due to a lack of volunteers, and a much depleted committee. However, we will continue as a Tidy Towns group, and keep maintaining the Village, as best we can - we should not necessarily need to be in a competition, to have some civic pride in the appearance of our Village!

We are currenrly insured by Galway Co. Council, which is one less cost to worry about, and we have local man (Paul Condon) on a part-time work scheme - hopefully, until 2028 - who is currently of great benefit to us.

If we are to enter the Tidy Towns competition in future years, we will need to put together a new committee, with fresh ideas, and enthusiasm.
We will be actively seeking support from the local communiny in this regard, in the coning months.

To those of you who continue to help in any way, we thank you most sincerely, and to those of you who may have helped in the past, or, if you would like to get involved for the first time, you may contact us at anytime on 0872246332, or email us at [email protected]

PS We would like to take this oppurtunity to congratulate Joan Concannon (Parish secretary) on 25 years of dedicated service to the Parish, and sincerely thank her, for all her help throughout the years.
