Parents of Muintir Bháire, we need your help.

Muintir Bháire Foróige club is looking for parents of our members to join our group of volunteer leaders.

As a club, we meet every Friday from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm, usually in Durrus. The programme is teenage-led; they make the decisions and organise activities, and leaders are there to guide and support.

Our timetable follows the school term, so the commitment from individual leaders isn’t huge (and obviously, the more leaders we have, the less each individual needs to commit), and we promise that you’ll get so much more out of working with these inspiring teens than you’ll ever have to put in.

Durrus and District Community Council Kilcrohane Development Ahakista Festival

Next up on the ACA's shedule of events is the Ahakista Open Water Swim on Saturday, 5th September (if the weather lets us down, it will run on 6th September). Swimmers will take off from Ahakista pier and either a complete 2k swim around Owen's Island or the shorter 500m length. Either way, we're expecting a great turnout as both categories are full and it's always a great fun event. All proceeds from the day's activities will go to the Ahakista Community Centre building fund.

Another Ahakista Festival weekend over and, in spite of the weather putting a dampner on the Family Fun Day and the Water Sports, it seems a very good time was had by all. Our sponsors (see below) responded generously to the call for an extra push this year in support of the Community Centre build and we offer them our heartfelt thanks. Without their unstinting participation each year the Bank Holiday weekend in Ahakista would look very different. We must also thank the Durrus Road Bowling Club who ran a great event and gave generously to the cause. The Sheep's Head Sea Scouts must also get a mention for their hugely successful Ball Run. As for the many volunteers who donate freely of their time and energy to make the Festival happen each year, Ahakista salutes you!
