Exciting progress on our new Shannon class lifeboat at the All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole.

The hull is well underway, and the wheelhouse is coming together nicely. The big milestone ahead will be in July, when the two are combined— bringing the vessel to life as a fully recognisable lifeboat.

From there, it’s on to fit-out, systems installation, and sea trials, with delivery planned for early 2027.

A huge amount of work goes into every Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeboat, and it’s incredible to see it taking shape step by step.

We’ll keep you updated as the build progresses

14 years ago today on the morning of January 15th 2012 the Tit Bonhomme sank at the entrance to Glandore Harbour off the coast of Union Hall in County Cork, Ireland, with 6 onboard.

Only one crewman, Abdul Mohamed from Egypt, survived.

The tragedy took the lives of skipper Michael Hayes, Heilbhic, Co Waterford, Kevin Kershaw from Tallaght, Co. Dublin and 3 Egyptians Attia Shaban, Wael Mohammed and Saied Ali Eldin. R.I.P

Later on this evening, at 6:30 there will be a short ceremony on the pier at Union Hall adjacent to the Lifeboat Station to remember the 5 fishermen lost.

Following the ceremony, the UNION HALL LIFEBOAT will launch and will lay a wreath at the site of the wreck of the Tit Bonhomme .

Thinking of them all, and their families today
