This evening as part of the Tralee Wild Bee Festival, we were delighted to be included as a satellite event here in Ballybunion.
Thanks so, so much to Niamh from Transition Kerry, Alan from Tralee Bay Wetlands and Ger and Claire from IWT Kerry Branch for coming to Ballybunion.

We walked and talked and learned so much about our pollinators and their life cycle, the plants and biodiversity and their importance within our community.

The icing on the cake at the very end was to find a rare Moss Carder Bee. Absolutely brilliant evening.

Join us, transition kerry and Irish Wildlife Trust - Kerry next Tuesday 21st at 6pm at the Castle Green for this lovely informative walk as part of the fantastic Kerry Wild Bee Festival.

We have all been working together with Ballyduff Tidy Towns to learn about the Moss Carder Bee and how we can support it here in our communities.

Ballybunion Nature Group had a fantastic day visiting our 3 local primary schools with Sally and Sarah from the Breeding Waders EIP to present to over 300 children with lots of information about our precious Breeding Wader birds locally. Focusing on our delightful Ringed Plovers along with Curlews, Dunlins, Golden Plovers, Snipes and many more, the children heard all about these birds, heard their sounds, saw the chicks, learning about the threats they face every day and offering advice to help keep them all a little safer.
Special thanks to the children, their teachers and staff for their willingness to become involved and to become Ambassadors for the Breeding Waders ad to Sarah and Sally for giving amazing, informative and really fun presentations.

We had a great start to our Ringed Plover surveying with a meet up at the Cashen and training on how to survey, fill in the forms, keep a healthy distance and encourage the community to look out for this wonderful, brave little bird.
After a shower or two of hailstones, we sat in the golf club for tea and more chats.
We were joined by Siobhan from Radio Kerry, who is following our journey this year for a wonderful documentary. More news soon...

Ballybunion Nature Group will host a training event and kick off session for Ringed Plover surveying this Friday 10th April at 2.30. Meeting at the Cashen Carpark. We will go through the survey methodology and recording form and hopefully see some Ringed Plover as we walk out onto the beach. Bring appropriate footwear and clothes. 

It's really important that we see a good few people here so that we will all be on the same page with the surveys and to build the team bond and the love for this little brave bird.
