Huge thanks to Linda Jo and the SICAP team for their ongoing support

Linda-Jo Quinn SICAP Community Development Co-ordinator supported an informative event on Saturday in relation to “ Intersections of Poverty” Experiences from Disabled and LGBTQ+ communities.

This event was organised by Disability Participation News Hub, Heartlands Pride Athlone and Independent People with Disabilities - Registered Charity Number 524496 and held in Technological University of the Shannon, Athlone Great debate and discussion took place regarding the challenges people face and what needs to change. Important to have these conversations.

We are very excited to be letting you all know that the ONSIDE digital Inclusion Programme is back as ONSIDE Evolution.

Our own Mo Farah and Pippa Black are working away to bring digital inclusion to hundreds of Disabled People in Donegal over the next three years.

ONSIDE Evolution is a cross-border project funded through the EU PEACEPLUS Programme, supporting disabled people aged 16 and over to reduce digital and social isolation, build confidence and skills, strengthen community connections, and become more active in their communities.

Participants can benefit from:

A free tablet, subject to programme participation requirements.

A six-week digital skills programme focused on digital confidence, independence, inclusion and online safety.

Disability Equality and Active Citizenship training to help participants understand their rights and participate more actively in community life.

Opportunities to connect with local Disabled Persons’ Organisations (DPOs) and community activities.

📢 Call for inputs: the human rights of migrants with disabilities

The Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities is drafting a new thematic report to be presented at the 64th session of the Human Rights Council.

“In her report, the Special Rapporteur will seek to address these protection gaps and systematically examine the intersection of disability and migration from a human rights perspective. The report will look at the experiences of persons with disabilities across all stages of migration, including pre-departure, transit, border crossing, detention, reception and integration, and return and reintegration.

It will consider diverse groups of international migrants with disabilities, including refugees and asylum seekers, migrants in irregular situations, and those who acquire impairments during migration. The report is intended to provide concrete, actionable recommendations to advance disability-inclusive migration governance in line with the CRPD and international human rights law.”
