We love this little book about a donkey, spotted in Castletownbere library. Donkeys are often portrayed negatively to children via cartoons and books. There is an implication they are silly / unintelligent. These messages / myths can influence how young people view these wonderful animals. We liked this book that showed the donkey portrayed in a positive way.

Understanding your Equine Dentists terminology
Sometimes, its difficult for owners to understand what the dentist is talking about expecially when we are unable to look into the mouth ourselves.

Below is a great photo of an example of a hook in a horses or donkeys mouth.

An equine dentist is a professionally trained person specializing in the oral health of horses and donkeys, ensuring proper chewing, digestion, and performance by performing routine checks, floating (rasping) sharp teeth, and addressing other dental issues like tooth loss and abscesses. Regular dental care is vital because horses' and donkeys teeth continuously grow, potentially causing pain and problems such as weight loss if not maintained.

On International Day of Friendship. We celebrate the unique relationships that donkeys form, known as pair bonding.
Donkeys are social creatures and often form very close friendships with each other called pair bonding. These two are bonded and do everything together. They are kept together for all routine tasks and activities. They will become distressed if they can’t see each other.
Not all donkeys form a close bond but if they do owners need to respect the friendship. Contact us if you have any questions about this.
