Apart from studying the rhinorays, we spend a lot of our time connecting and discussing with the people who live the closest to them: the local community of Karimunjawa

We believe listening to their perspectives is key when we want to develop a conservation and management plan for rhinorays - a plan that can be beneficial for both the species and the community

Beberapa minggu yang lalu, EPI bersama Departemen Kelautan FPIK Undip menggelar kelas untuk mengupas tentang konservasi hiu dan pari 🦈

Selama ini, Elasmo-Class adalah sesi belajar dan diskusi kecil antara tim dan intern-intern EPI. Tapi untuk pertama kalinya, kami menggelar Elasmo-Class untuk publik! ✨

EPI berbagi pengalaman dan pembelajaran dari kegiatan riset dan konservasi yang telah kami lakukan sejak 2022. Kegiatan ditutup dengan sesi diskusi seru bersama seluruh peserta.

Setelah ini, Elasmo-Class kita laksanakan dimana yaa? 🤔 Berikan usul di bawah!

🦈 We have been featured in the latest Shark News | Issue 13 | April 2026

This time we had the chance to share our story from Karimunjawa, where we work with fishers to map important habitats for the rhinorays (aka. the shark-like rays)

The results are coming together, as we have identified several hotspots and (what is possibly..) important habitats for the species. More research is underway! 💪

⭐ Meet two of our local crafters in Arborek: Imei and Karlo

In the village, we call them Bapak and Mama Karlo, refering to as the parents of Karlo - their son. Bapak Karlo works as an electrician, meanwhile Mama Karlo manages a local homestay by the coast. She is also active in various conservation initiatives in Arborek, especially for manta rays and kalabia (walking shark) 🤿

🥥 Now they are diving into the art of coconut carving, creating beautiful handcrafted necklaces. Every piece marks the story of Arborek, these two crafters, and the story of the endemic walking shark of Raja Ampat

Lowongan dibuka untuk posisi ☀️ Staff Program Citizen Science (paruh waktu)

Sejak tahun 2020, EPI membangun platform citizen science untuk memetakan distribusi dan keanekaragaman elasmobranchii (hiu dan pari) di Indonesia 🦈

Staff akan bertanggung jawab untuk mengelola komunikasi dengan mitra dan kontributor data, sekaligus pembuatan media informasi untuk mendukung program ini

Berbagai kreasi dari buah kelapa 🥥
Dipandu oleh Kak Petrus dari , teman-teman di Arborek belajar untuk membuat kerajinan tangan. Dengan detil mereka mengukir batok kelapa dengan beragam bentuk, bahkan sampai menyerupai hiu berjalan! Isi dari si buah diparut dan diproses menjadi minyak kelapa (virgin coconut oil, VCO) yang memiliki banyak manfaat.

Semua produk ini sebentar lagi akan siap untuk kamu beli lho 😌 tungguin terus ya!
