A simple and fun experiment by a primary school pupil

07/05/2026

Today, Year 2 pupils learnt to recognise cubes and cuboids in a fun way. They made cubes and cuboids using sticks and modelling clay.

Through this activity, the pupils not only grasped mathematical concepts, but also:
✨ Practised precision when measuring the length of the sticks
✨ Practised patience whilst assembling the sticks and modelling clay
✨ Developed fine motor skills so that the cubes and rectangular prisms could stand upright

Learning through hands-on activities like this makes it easier for children to understand and makes them more enthusiastic about learning

Birdy is a bird from the wttw school who has begun travelling to various places in Indonesia, and will later share his experiences with the children.
The journey began at the school (Lovina) and continued to Ubud, Prambanan Temple, Borobudur, Jakarta, Waykambas, Toraja, Lake Toba, and Lombok.
This week, Birdy returned safely from his journey with a sense of accomplishment.

My name is Dom Aquilina and I am a teacher and education consultant visiting from the United Kingdom. I specialise in training for teachers focussed on child centred, active learning. I make use of creative pedagogical techniques to engage and motivate children, rooted in an understanding of child development. It is my aim for practitioners to harness the wonderful energy and enthusiasm of the children under their care to really get the best out of every individual.

I will be spending a month at WTTW, working with the staff and delivering a series of workshops on the principles of active learning, amongst other things.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week at the school and loved seeing the children and teachers in action. I was particularly impressed with the positive atmosphere and how happy the school feels.

I look forward to the rest of my time here and to hopefully meeting you all over the coming weeks.

Welcome to our school, Dom. The teachers here will be delighted to share their learning and teaching experiences with you. We hope you will enjoy your one-month stay at wttw school and feel comfortable here.
Thank you.
🙏
Note:
wttw school, through the Rumah Alfred Foundation,
