It’s Time 🌝

"Hi! This is Putri and Bang Andri from the first shift observing ZigZag. At first, ZigZag was very difficult to find, he was sleeping like a bundle looking very cute in a tree. He then seemed quite active, eating some insects before resting".

💚 Today a beautiful tribute was paid to an icon of primate conservation: Professor David Chivers.

For more than five decades, David’s work stretched across the ranges of many slow loris species. He supervised the very first PhD on slow loris ecology in Malaysia and championed primate conservation with unwavering passion. He was also a steadfast supporter of LFP and a generous mentor to so many of our staff and students.

His impact is immeasurable and his absence will be deeply felt. 💚

We’re excited to share that our episode on Deadly 60 is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer! 🎉

This episode shines a light on the incredible (and often overlooked) world of slow lorises, and the challenges they face in an increasingly human-dominated landscape. It’s a huge moment for our team to see this story reach a global audience.

If you’re in the UK, you can stream it now on iPlayer — we’d love to hear what you think!

This week we focus on Jeka for our 'Tales from the Garden':

"Hi! This is Ajeng and Pak Aab from the 1st shift observing Jeka! The wind was still quite strong tonight, though not as intense as yesterday and the air felt noticeably colder. We wondered if that might be the reason Jeka seemed a bit lazier than usual. Throughout the observation, he didn’t travel very far, only moving between nearby trees. The light rain that came and went during the night might also have influenced his behaviour.

Ever heard of an ethogram?
It’s basically a behaviour cheat sheet. This one is all slow loris. 🌙

Captured on thermal camera so nothing stays hidden 👀

Narrated by Research Assistant Ivan, who’s out there watching them while the rest of us are asleep.

🎥 A night in the forest with our intern 🌙

What is it like to study slow lorises in the wild? Our student intern Fahmi takes you along on a night survey to find out.

Armed with a headlamp, notebook and plenty of patience, Fahmi joins the team in the forest to search for the elusive Javan slow loris.

In this vlog, Fahmi shares a glimpse of field life — spotting lorises in the canopy, recording observations and learning more about their ecology.
