Last weekend we had the third reunion of our programme called Critical thinkers – angol vita klubok. On Friday students from Debrecen, Pápa and Budapest joined our Babits Debate Club and they all visited the MediSkills Lab at the medical university. They could interact with Sharon, the virtual patient, and try other clinical skills simulations. On Saturday they had two debates on two different topics: virtual patients and gene-editing in human embryos. The topics seem challenging, but all 8 teams were extremely well-prepared and carried out an excellent debate with intriguing arguments.
Check out the video that UNIV TV prepared about the event.

The event was sponsored by Nemzeti Tehetségprogram and Kulturális és Innovációs Minisztérium.

Governments should protect free speech even if it allows the spreading of misinformation and divisive ideas.
The competition was a great experience with excellent opponents, friendly judges and wonderful organizers.
Congratulations to the team: Esküdt Blanka, 11.d, Szabó Luca, 11.d and Gergely Máté, 11.e.

Sustainable Development

Today our school welcomed three international students from the PTE faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, who are also part of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) program. They gave an interesting presentation to the 9.B class in English, about the 17 sustainable development goals of the UN. Each of them talked about a specific goal which their country is struggling with and is trying to fulfil. Yahara Nabilah talked about how the government is planning to ensure healthy food in Malaysa, Bianca Uwera about how Uganda is trying to make clean water and sanitation more accessible, and Uleimanova Nazerin about how Russia is making an effort to restore the ocean's biodiversity. They organised an interactive class with fun facts, and then challenged the students of 9.B to think of solutions for the problems which they think are present in Hungary.

📢 With just one day remaining, we look forward to welcoming team Brain Worms to Debrecen.

🎤 "We are the Brain Worms from Pécs. We like to live out our passion for debates in discussions and competitions. We are often sleep-deprived, but always enthusiastic and we do like to challenge ourselves and each other. We can’t wait to participate in the DEbate finals."

Three years ago we started a Debate Club in English at our school. This year we coordinate our work with a few other debate clubs in the country and have reunions where we practice our debating skills. If you have 20 minutes, listen to a podcast with two members of our club.

Today, several of our student groups had the opportunity to take part in inspiring presentations at our school, organized in cooperation with the American Corner. We were delighted to welcome Fulbright student Lillian Fenzil, who delivered engaging sessions on “History and Development of the American Flag” and “Superheroes and Their Reflection of Culture and Values.”

We hope everyone who attended found the experience enjoyable, interesting, and enriching! 🇺🇸✨
