During my visit to Madrid, I engaged with 12 Bangladeshi migrants to understand their migration aspirations and integration experiences. Many of them, including Jubair (23), who arrived in Spain within the past one or two years, shared painful stories of hardship. Many earn 700-800 euros/month without proper documents or work permits, while others struggle, hoping for legal residency within two years.
A common struggle was finding stable employment and fulfilling the expectation of sending remittances back home. However, not all experiences were entirely negative. Jan Alam, originally from Feni and currently working as a cashier in a Bangladeshi shop near Lavapiés, expressed relative satisfaction with his migration journey. He noted that, in his case, obtaining permanent residency has not been particularly difficult. While visiting the Bangladeshi neighborhood around Lavapiés, I observed a large and active migrant community. Most members are engaged in small-scale employment, working in fruit shops, grocery stores, and restaurants. Unlike in Budapest, the Bangladeshi community in Madrid is notably larger and more organized, with established community networks and organizations that support both social and economic integration.

আমার মাদ্রিদ ভ্রমণের সময়, আমি ১২ জন বাংলাদেশি অভিবাসীর সঙ্গে কথা বলেছি, যাতে তাদের অভিবাসনের আগের প্রত্যাশা এবং পরবর্তী বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা সম্পর্কে বোঝা যায়। এদের অনেকেই, যেমন ২৩ বছর বয়সী জুবায়ের, যিনি গত এক বা দুই বছরের মধ্যে স্পেনে এসেছেন, কষ্টের অভিজ্ঞতা ভাগ করে নিয়েছেন। একটি সাধারণ সমস্যা ছিল স্থায়ী চাকরি পাওয়ার অসুবিধা এবং দেশে টাকা পাঠানোর প্রত্যাশা পূরণে ব্যর্থতা। তবে সবার অভিজ্ঞতা একরকম ছিল না। ফেনী জেলার জন আলম, যিনি এখন লাভাপিয়েস এলাকার একটি বাংলাদেশি দোকানে ক্যাশিয়ার হিসেবে কাজ করছেন, তুলনামূলকভাবে সন্তুষ্টি প্রকাশ করেছেন। তিনি উল্লেখ করেন, তার জন্য স্পেনে স্থায়ী রেসিডেন্স পাওয়াটা খুব কঠিন ছিল না। লাভাপিয়েস এলাকায় অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশি পাড়া ঘুরে আমি লক্ষ্য করেছি একটি বড় এবং সক্রিয় অভিবাসী সম্প্রদায়ের উপস্থিতি। এদের বেশিরভাগই ফলের দোকান, মুদির দোকান এবং রেস্টুরেন্টে ছোট পরিসরে কাজ করেন। বুদাপেস্টের তুলনায়, মাদ্রিদে বাংলাদেশি সম্প্রদায়টি অনেক বড় এবং বেশি সংগঠিত, যেখানে তাদের নিজস্ব সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক সহায়তামূলক সংগঠন রয়েছে।
