Portrait biographique – Carmelle COQMAR

Dans le cadre de la 6ᵉ édition du projet « Hommage aux 50 Femmes Haïtiennes Modèles et Inspirantes », le Réseau des Femmes Haïtiennes Modèles et Inspirantes (REFEHMI), en partenariat avec l’Initiative des Femmes Haïtiennes dans le Tourisme (IFTH), Sco Tour Haïti (STH) et le Bureau de l’Organisation des Jeunes pour les Nations-Unies d’Afrique en Haïti (BOJNUAH), a l’honneur de mettre en lumière le parcours de Carmelle COQMAR
Née à Limbé, dans le département du Nord d’Haïti, Carmelle COQMAR est une femme d’affaires passionnée et une créatrice d’exception qui incarne la force, la persévérance et la créativité de la femme haïtienne. Formée en psychologie à la Faculté d’Ethnologie de l’Université d’État d’Haïti, elle a su faire dialoguer l’esprit et la matière, l’analyse humaine et la création artisanale, pour donner naissance à une entreprise à la fois innovante, sociale et profondément enracinée dans la culture du pays.

Femme d’affaires visionnaire, créatrice engagée et ambassadrice du savoir-faire haïtien, en novembre 2016, elle fonde COLLECTION 1804, une entreprise haïtienne spécialisée dans la confection, la réparation et la vente de produits en cuir faits main, mariant tradition artisanale et design contemporain. Chaussures, sacs, ceintures, portefeuilles et accessoires sur mesure y sont conçus avec soin et fierté. Par cette initiative, elle ne crée pas seulement des produits, mais un véritable pont entre le patrimoine artisanal haïtien et le marché international.

Sous sa direction, COLLECTION 1804 s’impose rapidement comme un symbole d’élégance, de résilience et d’identité culturelle. Reconnue dans de nombreux salons, foires et expositions, en Haïti, aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Jamaïque et dans plusieurs pays de la Caraïbe, la marque a été mise à l’honneur dans des événements prestigieux tels que «Artisanat en Fête», la NAAHP Conference, l’Expo Made in Haiti, ou encore le Doral Fashion Week en Floride, où elle reçoit en 2024 un Certificate of Recognition.

Mais au-delà de l’entreprise, Carmelle COQMAR représente un modèle de leadership féminin et de transformation sociale. Animée par un sens profond de la transmission, elle forme et accompagne depuis plusieurs années des jeunes femmes dans les métiers de la cordonnerie et de la maroquinerie, leur ouvrant ainsi les portes d’une autonomie économique durable. Grâce à ses programmes, 45 jeunes artisanes ont pu acquérir des compétences techniques et entrepreneuriales leur permettant de vivre dignement de leur savoir-faire.

Son parcours professionnel, riche et varié, témoigne d’une femme engagée dans le développement social et économique de son pays. Avant de se consacrer à l’entrepreneuriat, elle a occupé plusieurs fonctions clés : Responsable de communication au sein du Groupe Sitadel, Program Manager et Chargée des relations publiques à la Fondation Espoir, et Coordinatrice nationale du Réseau Jeune Ayiti. Partout où elle passe, elle laisse la marque d’une gestionnaire visionnaire, d’une communicatrice inspirante et d’une leader bienveillante.

Son engagement lui vaut de nombreuses distinctions : Honneur et Mérite du Ministère du Commerce et de l’Industrie (2021), Awards de la Chambre de Commerce des Femmes Entrepreneures d’Haïti (2020), et plusieurs reconnaissances internationales pour sa contribution à la promotion de la mode et de l’artisanat haïtiens.

Aujourd’hui, Carmelle COQMAR continue de porter haut les couleurs d’Haïti à travers ses créations, son audace et sa foi inébranlable en la capacité des femmes à bâtir, à innover et à transformer leur réalité. Par son exemple, elle prouve que la passion, la discipline et la créativité peuvent faire éclore la beauté même au cœur de l’adversité. « Je crois que chaque femme porte en elle un potentiel de création illimité. L’artisanat n’est pas seulement un métier, c’est une mission : celle de faire vivre notre culture, de la transmettre et de la magnifier. » Par sa vision et son parcours, Carmelle COQMAR est l’incarnation vivante du thème :« FANM SE RASIN », la racine qui nourrit, élève et inspire tout un peuple.

Cette initiative, qui vise à mettre en valeur le travail remarquable de femmes haïtiennes évoluant dans les domaines de l’Éducation, de la Culture, de la Gouvernance, du Leadership, du Tourisme, de l’Entrepreneuriat et du Développement communautaire, se déroule cette année autour du thème : « FANM SE RASIN ! » Le public aura l’opportunité de découvrir davantage le parcours de Carmelle COQMAR, lors de la cérémonie officielle d’hommage, prévue à Port-au-Prince, en Janvier 2026.

Greetings to my REDLAD* colleagues. You, who still believe in Democracy, a system, which seems to be under attack. Democracy is on the verge of disappearing in many countries, and certainly is dying in my homeland of Ayiti.
I am writing to you today in the throes of despair, and cognizant that the network and other organizations promoting democracy in Ayiti can do nothing to help us. There are no institutions left capable of serving the citizens here, let alone defending them.
Today we are under a curfew declared not only by the State, but also by the gangs that have established a new order, which others and I call “Gangocracy”.
Monday, March 18, the streets of Port au Prince and all the surrounding villages are empty, only bandits have the right to roam. The State has failed and all government institutions are under attack. Public hospitals are closed, and anyone who leaves their home risks being captured or executed. You can understand the terror and fear that we live in; particularly children trapped at home for their own safety.
Our youth and the future of Ayiti, the First Black Nation to eradicate colonial slavery, is slowly but surely being destroyed. In October 2022, the United Nations had decided that it was necessary to send Special Forces to help the State and more importantly to protect the population. But to this day, the country is still waiting. Thus, we can only assume that it does not matter “if the country sinks into the Caribbean Sea”. No one can say that the international community is not complicit and/or an instigator of this fact. Let us also note that the country has the resources to rise and eradicate the gangs; however, the army has not been given the opportunity to properly equip itself. While there is an embargo on weapons in Ayiti, the fi****ms continue to arrive in the country to reinforce the gangs but not the army or the police.
Adding to the political quagmire, our Dominican neighbors are complicit in the cynical plani and have forgotten that their country was once called the Republic of Eastern Ayiti. Their very existence, they owe to the struggle of the same Ayitians who were their heroes and had assisted them in guarding their independence against the Spaniards. Where is justice, or the principle of lending a hand to your neighbor who is in danger today?
Those of us who remain on the ground do so despite immense risk to our security and quality of life. We know that all those watching the country sink, little by little, devise that no one else remain on our beautiful land. Their aim is to descend upon and exploit the enormous natural resources of the country, and do so without having to pay or share the profits with the Ayitian people.
We do not know how much longer we will be able to wait and continue living this hellish daily life, orchestrated by design and with the help of the “Friends of Ayiti”.
The world prefers to ignore Ayiti because facing the countries difficulties is too complex and would require self-reflection from those who have contributed to its demise. In the end, recognition of past alliances does not exist in politics. It is easier to disregard the country that 200 years ago defeated France, Spain, and England to claim its freedom and force the world to abolish slavery. It is easier to forget that without Ayiti, Bolivar himself would never have been

able to return to liberate The Grand Colombia. It is easier to forget Ayiti, the country whose fight for freedom ushered in seismic changes to the world’s dominant narrative. The example inspired generations of people, globally, to work towards equality, and in the United States, it eventually paved the way for the election of the first black American president, Barack Obama. It is easier to forget Ayiti, depicting the citizens as being poor students of” the system”. When in reality, the country has followed the directives of Neoliberalism since the American occupation in 1915, to arrive at nothing today.
My words are not “suggesting” a conspiracy theory, I am emphatically exposing a tangible scheme against Ayiti. I share this information with you as a warning. If no one has the courage to help Ayiti, soon, one day, this same situation will reach your home. Hear this cry! Don’t be foolish, damn it, it can also happen to your country. By then, it will be too late to realize that you should have helped the Ayitian nation. So call your governments or any voices who hold power to demand that they consider the Ayitian case and mobilize resources urgently because it is already late!
My apologies to those who feel offended by my words, but it is our truth and reality.
