🔬 Topic: From Experience to Credentials: an Exploration of a Complex Transition for Trainee Interpreters and Translators in the United Kingdom

Paul is a qualified interpreter, supervisor, and assessor based in the UK. He completed his PhD in 2023, exploring the motivations and experiences of men becoming sign language interpreters. His broader research interests include the deaf LGBT+ community and professional supervision for interpreters and translators. Paul is also a long-time supporter of efsli, having been an individual member since 2009!

In his session, Dr. Michaels will bridge research and practice to explore the complex transition from practical experience to formal credentials.

Meet Mark Berry, one of our featured speakers at the efsli Conference 2026 in Zagreb, Croatia! 🇭🇷

Mark is the Co-Head of Interpreter Training and Development at Sorenson UK. Raised in a Deaf family in New Zealand, he brings over 15 years of experience teaching Deaf and hearing communities. As a multicultural polyglot based in London, Mark is a qualified BSL-ASL interpreter and a WFD-WASLI accredited International Interpreter.

At the conference, Mark will present his insightful session: "Bridging Education and Practice: Exploring Experience-Based Learning in Early-Career Sign Language Interpreting." Join his presentation to explore experience-based learning models.
