Around 27.6 million people are in forced labour.
In many sectors and in every continent across the world.
We can never accept that people are threatened to make products that end up for sale in Europe – business can never be done at the expense of people's dignity and freedom.
This week, we welcome the political agreement to ban products made with forced labour from the Union market.
The new legislation will:
✅ cover products made in the EU for domestic consumption and exports;
✅ cover imported goods, without targeting specific companies or industries;
✅ open the possibility to investigate cases and take decisions where the risk of forced labour is inside and outside the territory of the Union.
