Backpacks for Kids Foundation
Backpacks for Kids Foundation is a nonprofit organization that enriches the lives of children in need in Central America by helping with their Education. This foundation is founded by Mateo Padilla along with his parents, Mary and Juan Padilla. Our mission is to start a charity in where we can help children go to school or go back to school, by supplying Backpacks filled with school supplies to promote Education.
Many of our children are privileged to buy a new backpack, school supplies, shoes, uniforms, etc. every school year, while other children barely have enough to buy paper and pencils. With your support, we can make a change, so please fill a backpack with school supplies you think are necessary for children to have during their school year. We are sure many children will have a smile on their faces once they see all the cool stuff you sent them and hope you’re smiling too!
We would like a backpack per family/person. If you are able to give more than one backpack, more children will receive a backpack. Also, please do not fill bulky or heavy items, since all will be shipped at a cost. (If you would like to contribute to the shipping cost, please add $4 to the Backpack.) Here are a few items that can be sent;
pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens, markers, crayons, color-pencils, rulers, erasers, glue- sticks, sticky notes, highlighters, notebooks, folders, stickers, coloring books, composition books, small blankets, etc. or anything else you think students might need/use. (Paper is always useful, but it’s a bit heavy so we rather purchase it abroad.)
Please feel free to ask any questions or concerns you may have. We would love to hear any advice or ideas you want to share. We hope that we can count on you to help us make this charity an annual tradition.
Also, we would like to have all the Backpacks/supplies by first week of December 2021. Please contact one of us when your Backpack is ready for pick-up, or delivery.

**Stay Informed**
• 115 million children around the world do not attend school. They need to work to help their families survive.
• Two-thirds of children who do not attend school are girls. Girls are more likely to help out in the house.
• Of those who attend school, one-third drop out before they learn to read, write and count.
• Over 15% of children in developing countries do not complete a course of primary education. (In Central America, less than 60% of children complete a course of primary education.)
• Nearly 1 billion adults in the world are illiterate. Women account for 2/3 of all illiterate adults.
• Some countries spend $4,000 on a student each year, while developing countries spend $40.
• In Latin America, there are 2.5 million children out of school--1.2 million are girls.
