[A Route to Full HKIP Membership: Experience-sharing Session by the Membership Board and Full Members of HKIP]

On 20 January 2025, we successfully held the "A Route to Full HKIP Membership: Experience-sharing Session by the Membership Board and Full Members of HKIP" to support young members on their journey towards full HKIP membership. A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the event and contributed to its success. The shared knowledge and experiences have undoubtedly inspired many to take the next step towards full HKIP membership.

The session started with an engaging sharing by HKIP Membership Board members. They covered essential submission details, including the requirements for completing the forms, guidelines on structuring a strong submission, and common mistakes to avoid. The Membership Board also walked participants through the Membership Board interview, explaining the interview structure, key evaluation criteria, and tips for effective preparation.

In the second half of the session, young planners took the stage to share their personal experiences. They offered valuable insights into building a solid professional background that aligns with HKIP's requirements. They also shared practical tips on how to prepare for the interview, manage nerves, and present confidently, and lessons learned along their career journey.

After the sharing, attendees had the opportunity to seek personalised advice from the speakers.

We encourage all aspiring members to join us at future events. Stay connected for updates on our next event!

[Annual National Planning Conference 2024]

Young Planners Group (YPG) of HKIP is delighted to participate in the Annual National Planning Conference ๏ผˆไธญๅœ‹ๅŸŽๅธ‚่ฆๅŠƒๅนดๆœƒ๏ผ‰ 2024 held in Hefei, China on 6-9 September 2024 with the theme ofใ€Œ็พŽ้บ—ไธญๅœ‹ ๅ…ฑๅปบยทๅ…ฑๆฒปยทๅ…ฑไบซใ€. It is the most renowned academic summit in the field of urban planning in China that gathers experts and scholars from different parts of China to share their experiences and views on planning issues and opportunities.

This year, the YPG delegation hosted a session titled "Constructing Hong Kongโ€™s Dual Engine (Aviation and Tourism)", with the aim to explore the directions of further elevating Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub and driving Hong Kong's tourism development. The team examined the planning of the Hong Kong International Airport and the surrounding uses, in particular tourism resources, and the cooperation and competition among airports within the Greater Bay Area. Through studying notable overseas cases, the team proposed various recommendations in strengthening regional cooperation and spatial planning, including developing tourism with unmanned aerial vehicle and island hopping. Our presentation was followed by an engaging discussion with fellow practitioners and researchers to exchange ideas and common concerns when it comes to planning for an airport city. We will be sharing our findings on 2 December 2024 (Monday). Stay tuned!

We are also much grateful for the opportunity to take up this research project and the valuable advice and support from our senior members from HKIP. See you all next year!

[Technical Visit - Heritage Tour at Green Hub]

Thank you to all participants who joined our technical visit to the Green Hub in Tai Po on 20 April 2024. With the warm hospitality of the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden team throughout the visit, we had an enlightening and enjoyable experience exploring this revitalised declared monument and sustainable lifestyle.

The site has been repurposed as a centre for environmental education and sustainable living under the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme. Led by a knowledgeable tour guide, the tour covered the history of New Territories, the architectural significance of the site, and the ecological and heritage conservation works taken. It was inspiring to see how eco-friendly practices can be implemented in this precious declared monument, serving as a testament to the importance of adaptive reuse in preserving our cultural legacy.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Green Hub for providing an exceptional educational experience to the public. The Green Hub presents the importance of environmental stewardship and the cultural essence of our society, contributing to a greener and more sustainable practice in urban planning.

[Career Workshop 2024]

The Career Workshop 2024 was held on 22 March 2024 successfully. A heartfelt thank you to all the participants and speakers!

The sharing session featured eight young planners who work in government departments, quasi-government bodies, the private sector, and an academic body / NGO. They shared their invaluable experiences and insights into entering the planning field, and the wealth of knowledge and personal stories were incredibly inspiring.

The interactive Q&A session afterwards fostered in-depth discussions and allowed participants to engage directly with the speakers. It was wonderful to see such enthusiastic participation and exchange of ideas. We would like to extend our special thanks to HKU for providing the venue and logistics support to us. Stay tuned for more activities!
