The Aim of Birthdays with Love is to promote and assist in the mental and spiritual education of deprived and orphaned children in Hong Kong by organising non-classroom group recreational activities such as holding
near or on a child’s birthday. Background
“Birthdays With Love” were previous known as “Birthday Happiness”, a well known charity which held birthday parties for children in key low-income/ Single parent demographic areas in Hong Kong and was established in 2007. Operation
‘Birthdays With Love’ intends on operating in partnership with NGO’s throughout Hong Kong in order to provide birthday parties for the underprivileged children of Hong Kong. Parties have children with learning difficulties, disabilities, from single parent families and mainly from low income households. The parties are designed for children between the ages of 6 and 12 where up to 10 celebrants are encouraged to bring along their friends and family for a birthday party that lasts between 2 and 3 hours each. During each party the children will be exposed to a variety of games, learning challenges, team building exercises, language tuition all packaged within a birthday party format. Through the medium of conducting such non-classroom activities the following educational objectives are achieved:
1. Developing the children’s social skills
3. Developing the children’s people handling skills
4. Improving the children’s English skills (Programmes are conducted in English and the children will have the opportunity to learn about different cultures from expatriate volunteers)
5. Learn about different sectors of society and create an awareness of the different sectors of the community (through socialising with our volunteers) which will help their social mobility as they grow older. Birthdays with love is completely dependent on donations in order to provide this service to the community. The average cost of a party is around HKD 4,000
