Moved by the 2004 South Asian tsunami, Carmen dedicated herself to serve in the slum areas in India. She married a local who shared the same calling, but a few years later when Carmen fell pregnant, her husband became seriously ill. He was paralysed and in a coma, recovering now but with limited mobility and using a wheelchair. Carmen realised from this incident that self-sustain
ed survival is a kind of blessing. This prompted her to establish a social enterprise which strives to provide working opportunities for ladies in slum area at the same time using the profit made by the products we sold, we establish a pre-school education institution to provide a proper schooling to the urging learning children in India Slum. Equip and connect them to formal schooling system in India. Because we belive Education is the best cure for reliving poverty in the long run.
2004南亞海嘯感動嘉敏前往印度貧民窟服侍。多年後與一位同心志的當地人結婚。不料當嘉敏懷孕時,丈夫患上重病及致全身癱瘓並一度昏迷,至今只能靠輪椅行動。丈夫的遭遇令她明白能靠己力生存也是一種祝福,人不能永遠依賴外間的援助。於是她成立社會企業;致力推動貧民窟生活改善計劃,包括讓婦女憑自己手藝賺取金錢以改善生活,又為當地兒童提供早期教育以助他們從返主流教育體制。因為我們相信只有透過教育,再改善當地兒童全人發展才可長遠協助他們脫貧。
About our Brand - Priya
The Hindi word “PRIYA” means “lovely” and “adorable”. PRIYA products include traditional embroidered handicrafts made by people living in the slums. All profits are used to education and slum development. The ultimate goal is to help them to live with dignity and avoid having to rely on charity, transforming the slums in which they live into a lovely and adorable community.
