Fighting Hunger with Sustainability: Youth Climate Action Spotlight 🌱

We’re proud to spotlight the third and final winner of this year’s Youth Climate Stories competition: Thayra Tambra from Ollas Sostenibles, an initiative making food security and sustainability go hand in hand.

During the COVID-19 crisis, Ollas Sostenibles strengthened traditional community kitchens by integrating sustainable practices — supporting local food production, cutting waste, and helping families access healthy, affordable meals even in times of scarcity.

Their story is a powerful reminder that resilience, solidarity, and climate action can start around a shared table.

We’re honored to celebrate the impact of Ollas Sostenibles and the hope it continues to inspire for a more just and sustainable future.

Turning Waste into Hope: Youth Climate Innovation in Action ♻️

Meet one of the inspiring winners of the 2025 Youth Climate Stories competition: Johnmary Kavuma, founder of Upcycle Africa , whose work is turning plastic waste into purpose and possibility.

Plastic has infiltrated nearly every part of our world — from ocean depths to mountaintops, from Arctic ice to the air we breathe. But where some see waste, Johnmary sees opportunity.

Based in Uganda, Upcycle Africa collects discarded plastic bottles and transforms them into durable, eco-friendly construction materials. These bricks are then used to build affordable housing, creating jobs for marginalized youth and raising awareness about environmental responsibility.

We’re proud to introduce one of the winners of the 2025 Youth Climate Stories competition: Charles Baraka Nteranya, whose story “Cultivating Change with Kilimo Green Farm” captured both the urgency and the hope driving climate action today.
