Standing among them, all I feel is utter helplessness.
Some children lean on crutches with thick bandages wrapped around their legs. Some suffer from severely swollen lower limbs covered with skin lesions. Others have frail little bodies, paired with young eyes that hold far too much weariness for their age. They should be running and laughing at school, yet they can only lean on each other in this shabby yard.
The teenage boy in the wheelchair struggles to sit up straight, but he cannot hide the agony in his legs… What they need are not just medicine and food. They require long-term medical support, rehabilitation training and constant care. Yet reality is harsh. A lack of funding, scarce medical resources and little public attention make every step we take incredibly tough.
Few people bother to stop and listen to their stories. Barely anyone shares their photos, and their cries for help almost always go unanswered. Night after night, I rewrite captions and post these photos, only to receive very few comments and shares. I am no doctor to cure their illnesses instantly. I am no wealthy person to donate large sums of money. I am just an ordinary volunteer documenting their hardships with words, yet time and again I feel how powerless these words truly are.
I beg everyone reading this post: pause for just one minute, and look into these children’s eyes.
We cannot change their painful past, but together we can shape a better future for them. Do not let these children wait silently, forgotten.
Attention equals hope. Action equals salvation.
