你知道甚麼是容貌焦慮症?🪞

容貌焦慮是一種常見的心理健康問題,指人們對自己的外貌感到不滿和焦慮,缺乏自信,並執着於身體的細微缺陷。容貌焦慮在現今社會越來越常見,而當這種焦慮嚴重到干擾生活功能時,可能被診斷為「軀體變形障礙」(Body Dysmorphic Disorder,簡稱 BDD)。

💭患者可能會有以下常見症狀:
1. 過度擔憂外貌:持續擔心自己的外貌,認為自己有缺陷或不完美,花費大量時間檢查、比較和修飾外貌。
2. 自我否定:認為自己的外貌缺陷會影響自身價值和吸引力,常常感到自卑和自我否定。
3. 社交退縮:對自己外貌的擔憂和對他人的注意力感到不安,因此避免出席社交場合。

Have you heard about appearance anxiety?🪞

Appearance anxiety is a mental health issue where individuals feel dissatisfied and anxious about their appearance, lack confidence, and obsess over minor flaws in their bodies. Appearance anxiety is increasingly prevalent in today's society, and when this anxiety becomes severe enough to interfere with daily functioning, it may be diagnosed as Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

💭Individuals with appearance anxiety may exhibit the following common symptoms:
1. Excessive worry about appearance: Continuously worrying about their appearance, believing they have defects or imperfections, and spending a significant amount of time checking, comparing, and altering their appearance.
2. Self-criticism: Thinking that their appearance flaws impact their self-worth and attractiveness, often leading to feelings of inadequacy and self-criticism.
3. Social withdrawal: Feeling uncomfortable with attention on their appearance and worrying about others' perceptions, leading to avoidance of social situations.

自閉症類群障礙(ASD)是一種影響一個人的社交互動、學習和行為模式的神經發展障礙。根據《精神疾病診斷及統計手冊》(第五版),自閉症的症狀一般分為兩大類:「在多重情境中持續有社交溝通及社交互動的缺損」以及「侷限、重覆的行為、興趣或活動模式」。

ASD患者會表現以下的行為缺損:
1. 社會-情緒互惠
2. 非語言溝通行為
3. 發展、維繫和理解關係的能力

同時,他們會表現至少兩項以下行為:
1. 重複的動作或言語
2. 堅持不變、儀式化的習慣並嚴格遵循
3. 在固定的興趣上異常的強烈或專注
4. 對感官體驗有過度或不足反應

ASD症狀通常在出生的首三年出現。嬰兒期的症狀可能包括:
1. 眼神接觸差
2. 對被叫名的反應不頻繁或緩慢
3. 抗拒擁抱
4. 對他人情緒反應冷淡

隨著成長,ASD兒童在語法、語義和語用上可能會遇到困難。例如,他們通常詞彙有限和難以理解詞意。語用通常是最具挑戰性的範疇,許多人會出現「鸚鵡式說話」——重複其他人說過的詞彙或語句。

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting how an individual interacts, learns, and behaves. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), ASD symptoms fall into two categories: “persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts” and “restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests, or activities”.

To be diagnosed with ASD, an individual must show deficits in all the following behaviours:
1. Social-emotional reciprocity
2. Nonverbal communicative behaviours
3. Skills in developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships

Additionally, they must exhibit at least two of these behaviours:
1. Repetitive motor movements or speech
2. Insistence on sameness and adherence to routines
3. Fixated interest that are abnormal in intensity or focus
4. Hyper- or hypo-reactivity to sensory input

Symptoms typically emerge in the first three years of life. In infancy, signs of social delay may include:
1. Poor eye contact
2. Infrequent or slow responses to name calling
3. Aversion to cuddling
4. Little response to others’ emotions

As autistic children grow, they may struggle with grammar, semantics, and pragmatics, often leading to limited vocabulary and difficulties in deriving word meanings. Pragmatics is often the most challenging aspect, with many encountering echolalia — meaningless repetition of words just spoken by another person.

許多人可能對注意力不足過動症(ADHD)有所了解,但當中可能存在不少誤解。讓我們來測試一下你的知識,來看看你知道多少吧!😆

❌誤解1: 如果孩子不過動,就不可能有ADHD。
✅事實: 與名稱相反,並非所有有ADHD的孩子都會有過動的表現。ADHD有兩種類型:過動和衝動型和注意力不集中型。過動和衝動型可能表現為過度講話、中斷他人和極度不耐煩。相比之下,注意力不集中型的孩子通常難以集中注意力,容易分心,對他們來說,過動與他們毫不相關。

❌誤解2: 孩子有ADHD是因為父母教育不當。
✅事實: ADHD其實是一種神經發展的障礙,腦部成像顯示,ADHD孩子的大腦功能與未受影響的孩子存在差異。雖然父母的教育方式不會導致孩子患有 ADHD,但樂於支持的父母在幫助孩子學習管理行為方面扮演著重要角色。通過清晰地示範適當的行為並給予讚美,孩子們可以產生顯著的改善。

✅事實: 有些人認為用於治療ADHD的興奮劑藥物會使孩子情緒不穩或昏昏欲睡,但對大多數孩子來說並非如此。如果出現這種情況,通常意味著處方的劑量或藥物不符合他們的需要。

Many of you may be familiar with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but there are many myths associated with it. Let’s test your knowledge to see how much you really know! 😆

❌Myth 1: A child can’t have ADHD if they aren’t hyperactive.
✅Fact: Contrary to the name, not all children with ADHD display hyperactivity. There are two types: hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive. The hyperactive-impulsive type may show excessive talking, interrupting others, and impatience. In contrast, children with the inattentive type often struggle to focus and get easily distracted—hyperactivity isn’t a factor for them.

❌Myth 2: ADHD is a result of poor parenting.
✅Fact: ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder, and brain imaging reveals differences in how the brains of affected children function. Although parenting doesn’t cause ADHD, supportive parents play a crucial role in helping their children learn to manage their behavior. By clearly modeling appropriate behavior and offering praise, this can make a significant difference in managing the condition.

❌Myth 3: ADHD medication alters a child’s personality.
✅Fact: Some believe that stimulant medications for ADHD can make children moody or sedated, but this is not the case for most children. If these effects occur, it usually means the child is on the wrong dose or medication for their specific needs.

主角周小曉係一個患有過度活躍症(ADHD)嘅女仔👩🏻電影正正透過唔同角度去探討ADHD小朋友好難融入社會嘅原因:

例如家庭教育係治療好重要嘅一環🏠但好似劇中媽媽對於小曉好難管教而容易出現情緒失控😢當家庭成員承受住沉重嘅壓力,而無法建立良好嘅行為模式,對患者嘅治療好不利🥺

另外,學校喺呢一方面嘅角色都好重要🏫特別係老師只係將小曉嘅行爲歸咎於病患本身,而冇深究過背後嘅原因,好多家長都冇體諒佢嘅情況🥺校園作為幫助小朋友成長嘅重要場所,當佢無辦法提供到一個好安全嘅環境嘅時候,只會令患者同埋家庭更加無所適從😰

其實無論係有邊一種特殊需要嘅同學仔,佢哋都好需要大家嘅理解與關懷💝如果唔同單位可以設置更完善嘅政策,令家庭照顧者得到一定嘅資源,同時提升學生、老師同家長對佢地嘅認識,從而放低對呢啲群體嘅偏見,營造一個更友善嘅環境🌈最終就可以令每個人能夠不受限制咁發揮所長✨ 大家不妨又諗下究竟我地身處喺中大,乃至呢個社會裡面可以做多啲咩啦🤍

Movie Sharing: Trouble Girl

The protagonist, Xiao-xiao is a girl who has mild ADHD. 👩🏻 The film has examined the reasons why children with ADHD struggle to integrate into society from several angles:

Family education, for example, is a crucial aspect of ADHD treatment. Unfortunately, as seen in the film, Xiao-xiao's mother can easily lose control of her emotions when looking after her, illustrating the enormous burden that family members bear.😢 The patients can hardly learn correct behavioral patterns as a result. This is also detrimental to their treatment. 🥺

Additionally, schools play a significant role. 🏫At school, the teacher blamed her behavior on ADHD without investigating the underlying cause. Meanwhile, other parents only criticize her nonetheless. 🥺 Ironically, school is regarded as a critical place for children's development. When it fails to serve this purpose, the patient's family will feel more insecure. 😰

No matter what kind of special needs the students have, they need everyone's understanding and care. 💝 If different units can develop better policies, family caregivers can benefit from more consistent access to services. Besides, children, teachers, and parents' comprehension of the students can be improved, reducing the prejudices against the groups. When everyone can enjoy a more welcoming environment, they will be able to play to their strengths more freely. 🌈After watching the movie, it is time to reflect on what we can do at CUHK and in society. 🤍

🎤 Personal Sharing: Inspiring stories from individuals with visual impairment deepened attendees’ understanding of the hardships faced by students with visual impairments in study.
🤝 Interactive Experience: A blindfold experience activity that helped attendees understand the daily challenges faced by students with visual impairment and learnt sighted guide technique.

並非所有的殘疾都是肉眼可見的👀。有些人生活在不易被人察覺的痛苦中🔍——慢性疼痛、心理健康問題、神經系統障礙等等❤️‍🩹😿。你看不見的,並不意味著它不存在。

請保持體諒和善意。🤟你永遠不知道別人正在經歷什麼。多一點理解,少一點誤解。🫂

Not all disabilities are easy to see👀. Some people live with pains that are not immediately obvious🔍—chronic pain, mental health challenges, neurological disorders, and more❤️‍🩹😿. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there.

Be mindful. Be kind.🤟 You never know what someone else is going through. A little understanding can go a long way.🫂
