童軍知友社於一九六九年成立，為香港童軍總會的直屬機構，服務使命為「創造有利條件，以協助青少年建立自我，貢獻社群」。

童軍知友社學校社會工作服務是自2000年8月開展的新服務，隨著社會服務需求改變，及配合政府青少年服務政策，童軍知友社重整服務資源，組成學校社會工作服務部門，並於2002年10月在元朗水邊圍邨設立學校社會工作服務辦公室，為元朗、天水圍及屯門10間中學提供服務。

服務中學包括:伯特利中學、中華基督教會基朗中學、聖公會白約翰會督中學、明愛元朗陳震夏中學、趙聿修紀念中學、元朗公立中學、可道中學(嗇色園主辦)、圓玄學院妙法寺內明陳呂重德紀念中學、南屯門官立中學、加拿大神召會嘉智中學。
